Author Topic: EMS TopGun setup Help Please (Read 2032 times)

I have a pair of TopGuns and I am trying to get them to work in MAME. I have installed the drivers from EMS and it tracks fine in windows but it is not being recognized in MAME32. I have v.116 and the Lightgun device is set to lightgun (I have also tried mouse).

What am I doing wrong?

Hit tab ingame as well, I seem to remember having to set x and y for the guns in the menu... been awhile though, I could be wrong

That is where I am and it dosen't recognize the gun. I move it up and down, left and right and nothing.

this gun was a total pain in the ass for me but when u get it working it works perfect.
You have to use smogs guncon 2 drivers not the EMS ones, they really do work.
Once u get them to work in windows where it acts like a mouse you have to set it up as like mouse 2 or mouse 3, mame will choose, then configure it in mame control menu. prolly wont work cause your using EMS drivers

I am not sure about EMS's drivers but guncon2mouse does not work in MAME32-based MAME builds. Try a cleaner version of MAME; you may be pleasantly surprised.

However speaking of snoozing I'm the one taking so long getting around to installing these.

And it may be a few days before I can get back to these helpful suggestions everybody is posting.

bah, it was like 3 minutes!

Good luck setting yours up. I am curious to see how long it takes. Had you read that thread before or followed the drivers' developments?

I haven't had time to read that 40+ page thread.

Last night was bowling night so I didn't have much time for anything else. I'll try to get some reading done in that thread over lunch today but it may take a while. Maybe tonight I'll get a chance to install Smog's driver and try plane MAME instead of MAME32. If not tonight I might have a chance on the 4th.

The EMS drivers DON'T WORK with mame since the second one uses a rawmouse input. The ONLY drivers that works with MAME/MAME32 are the Smog drivers.

BTW: IMPORTANT: There is a little bug from mame 113 to 116 that it will crash or hang mame if you use this combination: mouse 1 and multithreading=1 (others option in the mame config don't matter). With the new (rewrote) input system included in 116u1 and 116u2, this bug went out. But is the very last version 116u3, the input system is back temporaly to the 116 version, so this bug is again here.

Thanks for the info Cananas. I am not in a real big rush to get this working yet. Real life is getting in the way so what little free time I had is now gone. I hope that the mame devs get this fixed properly for 117. I would like to get the new Capcom System 3 games that were just added as well.

Can anyone give me a direct link to smogs drivers?

If you don't use de multithreading, you will don't have problems.
