Happ 3" trackball Molex plug

Hello all,

I'm looking for a Molex plug for a Happ 3" trackball wiring harness (see attached image); or more accurately a mating plug for the one pictured. I've checked my local parts store and came up empty and I've also looked online at Digikey and Mouser but it's difficult to narrow down the proper part without an image to compare with.

Can anyone point me to a supplier (or part number) for this plug?

Just built the exact same thing myself so I wouldn't have to cut my t/b or controller harness'

I don't have the part number, but I can run it down for you hopefully.  I sort of 'borrowed' my supplies from my work, for testing purposes 

I believe most of our parts come from a company called kimball-midwest, if that helps any, but I'll check with my tech tomorrow.

On mine, I actually had to find the six-pin molex and then find the female pins themselves separately as the standard ones didn't quite fit right.

If there is anything like an Auto Safety House in your area (light bars, beacons, sirens, stuff for police/fire/city cars etc.)  they should have something or be able to point you to it locally.

I was at micro center yesterday, and they have a nice big bin with all kinds of computer connectors, including the 6 pin molex. Plus they had pins for all of the different size connectors. I couldn't find it on their website, but here's the store locater... maybe you have one by you.

to mate with the trackball you need a 1261-R and six 1189 socket terminals.

Put 1261-r into the search at molex.com and you will find pics and all other data.

since there is already a thread here about the happ track ball, I've got a question...

My TB isn't working... its a used unit I got off E-bay. About two weeks ago, I had it hooked up to my main PC (running an updated version of XP) using an Opti-wiz, and it worked good.

Now I'm trying to hook it up to my cab (running an old version of XP... doesn't even have sp1) and it isn't working. Are there any recommended drivers for using it as a mouse?

You should not need a mouse driver as it is in XP.  Install sp1 and sp2 just to get up todate.  If all else fails repartition the drive and install tiny xp.

I guess I'll have to bring my multimeter home tomorrow... any tips on what I should be looking for?

and incase anybody out there knows a thing or two about the Opti-Wiz... when using the solderless connector / ribbon cable, should the cable cross back over the card or should it point away from the card?

First rule is You do not talk about fight club.

OK don't talk about your computer.  He/She must be sensitive.   First thing to check is does the fan and led come on?  If not probably a PS problem.  If you get no fan and no life at all you may need a new one.  Cheap and easy fix.  Some shops do not even plug in a tester they just replace cuz its faster.   

If you do get fan and led then reseat everything and try again.

If not working yet it is going to get harder.

I'm up in Canada so I'll try Radio shack first. With a part number I shouldn't have any problem sourcing the connector from a supply house.

We don't have any Radio Shacks left in Edmonton.  They are now The Source by Circuit City.  They carry even less then Radio Shack.

Less??  Boy, that's the understatement of the year...

Last time I walked into The Source and asked about anything electronic or hobby related, all three guys in the store shrugged and told me to try one of the local TV repair shops; they didn't carry any of the stuff I was looking for (quick connects, solder, tie straps, heat shrink tubing, LEDs, and wire).  Like come on... you pretend to call yourself an electronics shop but you don't carry any wire?!?

Agreed - I cringed when I saw Radio Shack! They're only a shadow of their former selves here in Canada with the electronic components now tucked away in a corner...and forget about getting help from anyone working there!

In southern Ontario (Toronto area) there's a small chain of electronic parts stores named Sayal - they have everything under the sun (or can get it)! I'm in the wrong province I'll track 'em down though!

Don't feel too bad, the Radio Scraps here in Arizona aren't much better unless you happen to be looking for a cheap R/C toy or a cell phone plan, they just don't carry much in the way of parts anymore.  A few project boxes, a handful of adapters, and blank stares on the faces of the employees is about it.

Oh, BTW, the 6 pin molex plug I used comes from a company called Lawson Products.

If you don't want to be bugged in Radio Shack, just tell the CSR that you are going to the parts bin. They say "oh" and go hide behind the counter.
