MaLa feature request or workaround for gamelists
« on: June 23, 2007, 01:51:21 pm »
After going through all the front ends, it seems MaLa is my best bet as it seems to work excellent with my U360 and LED-Wizes.

Here's the problem though:  I'm probably going to end up using a few different versions of MAME as each one has strengths and weaknesses pertaining to how the games are emulated.  I played around with the GameList app and it seems each emulator (or version of MAME) has its own list.

Is it possible now - or to add a feature in the future that enables you to combine games from various emulators (MAME, Daphne) into one custom gamelist?

(BTW I did a search and couldn't find a definitive recent answer so apologies if I missed something and this was answered already).

This seems unlikely as MaLa can only be configured for one set of mame files. I guess swindus would need to enhance MaLa. And I havn't seen a post from swindus on the forums for many weeks now.  ???

In my MaLa setup I created a generic "Other" emulator under Other Emu Config.  The gamelist searches for *.bat files and add the names to the list.  In this way I'm able to have both my Daphne and Stepmania games list within one gamelist.  In my bat directory, I have individual .bat files to launch Stepmania, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Dragon's Lair II.

DaveMMR, I'm curious to know, how many different versions of MAME are you going to run, and for what games will you be running them for?

I ask, because I have a full romset for v0.77, but am waiting for a full romset for v1.15 or v1.16. What games would be better served by the older romset / MAME version?

(And, sorry for thread hijacking).

Actually, I figure I'll have at least two.  I love Bubble Bobble but it was only fairly recently (.115 or .116, I don't remember) that it's been accurately emulated.  Ditto for Revolution X (the score tally screen didn't work for a while) - though I care a lot less about that game.    But then for older games, I wanted to go back to .99 or earlier.  I haven't really done full research on what games work better on which versions, but I know I'll probably end up with a few different versions.

FYI: AtomicFE has this feature. If it is really a must have for you , have a look.

Another neat enhancement for MALA (which I have requested in the past) is have a internally maintained gamelist which lists the Top500 games played from "any" emulator.   The gamelist would list the game as well as the emulator it came from.  Selection of the game would start the particular emulator/game of course.

I have many emulators configured and this would allow my kids to find their "most played" games very easily.  They would not be required to scroll between Nintendo, Sega and Mame emulators all the time.

I have actually been playing around with AtomicFE too (especially since you have LEDwiz support).  The only thing missing is built-in support for the Ultimarc 360s.

Sorry to sidetrack this thread.

I'm sure Youki will have a solution for you  ;) (even though I'm a MaLa nut  :dizzy:

How do you find the U360?

I've been toying with the idea of getting some. How is the feel?

I like Atomic and MaLa both a lot.  As I said, the only reason I was using MaLa was for the automatic mapping of my U360.

And to answer your question Loadman, the joystick is quite comfortable and works swimmingly.  I still have to add the restrictor and harder springs though.  That's next on my list.

Ack, this made me so happy!  It's so obvious, but I never thought of it.  Duh.  I'm running 2 different versions of Daphne, as not all games are covered in the current version, but I had 2 separate lists for them, 1 w/ 18 games, & 1 w/ 2 games.  Now they're combined by putting those 2 bat files in w/ the other 18.  Duh.

Thank you for writing out what should have already been obvious!!! :applaud:
