Where to Buy Trackball Bearings
« on: April 21, 2003, 04:27:30 pm »
I want to replace the bearing set in my trackball.. Can you get these at Lowes/HD/AutoZone/etc..?  Does anyone know exactly what I am after?  I have a 3" happs trackball.

I would prefer to get them locally, cause I am cheap.

Doubtful that you'd find them locally.  You can get them from www.happcontrols.com  www.therealbobroberts.com  or  www.betson.com

Of the three, I'd go for Bob.  He's quick, reasonably priced, and incredibly easy to deal with.

If you want to try to find them locally, what you are looking for is a double shielded R4 bearing, which is a direct replacement for the Happ trackball bearings.  R4 is the standard designation for a 1/4" ABEC-rated bearing.

It's pretty unlikely that you will be able to find these at your local home improvement center, but you could try a good hardware store or possibly a tooling supplier.  These types of bearings are commonly used in machinery, electric motors, woodworking equipment, etc...

##EDIT##

I suppose I could also give you the correct dimensions for a R4 bearing.  :)

I.D. - 1/4"
O.D. - 5/8"
Width - 13/64"
