Anyone want to identify an arcade game?
« on: June 21, 2007, 10:57:12 am »
This dates back to something I saw a few years ago. I went into an antique store (read:

junk shop) and amongst the various old things I found a few arcade machines. I remember

two electromechainical games, one baseball and one racing, but I also saw a strange Namco

machine. It had several games on it, and one of the games was "Pac-Man Arrangement".

The only time I'd ever seen this game was in the Pac-Man Collection game for Game Boy

Advance. The machine also had some sort of Dig-Dug game and some strange version of

Galaga. Can anyone identify this machine?

The Namco collections are quite a bit of fun. They're definitely not for the purists, but all of the arrangement versions are fun additions to the original.

Galaga (in collection 1) has different types of enemies that steal your ship. Taking it back gets you a different power-up depending on which enemy took it. Some of the formations the enemies fly in gets really crazy in later levels.

Mappy and Xevious aren't that different. 2-player splitscreen on Mappy and powerups in Xevious.

Collection 2 seems much more thought out. I'm not a huge fan of Pac-man arragement with the dash arrows and weird ghost that combines with the others, but it's OK. Rally-X's power-ups are cool, and some of the enemies in Dig Dug arrangement are awesome. At the end of Dig-Dug you get to fight a boss too (a giant Pooka that you have to blow up other enemies to hurt).
Brevity is not my strong suit.

Yep. That's the one. Huh. Maybe I should go ask that guy at the store what he'd want for it. If I remember still it was in good condition and all.
