I have a USB 3" Happ Trackball with mount on order from Tornado Terry, which should be arriving in a few days, however I am trying to complete all my CP and CP overlay (1/8") plexiglass with all the proper drilling, routing etc however I am unaware of the actual hole size to cut out above the trackball mount in the plexiglass (I know it is less than 3"). I guess I could wait until it arives but wanted to give this post a shot, I have the dimenesions printed out from the HAPP webpage which show the 6.5" x 6.5" mount needs a cutout of 5.6" x 5.6". Others on this site have mentioned the thickness is approx 1/8"...this takes care of the routing of the trackball mounting plate, but does anybody know the dimensions of the ball portion sticking above the mount ? So I cut the proper sized hole in my plexiglass. Thanks.
Those plates are closer to 1/16" thick, even though the reference says 1/8". If you bought the high lip (aka golden tee TB) then drill a 3" hole:
The TB lip is 3/16" tall, with 3" diameter.
1/16" (plate) + 1/8" (plexi) = 3/16" (total)
This is perfect: you cut a 3" diameter hole in the plexi that matches the 3" hole in the plate, and route the wood CP ~1/16" deep (route to the actual thickness of the plate). The top of the lip will be level with the top of the plexi.
If you got the older 3" model, the lip is 1/16" tall, and won't make it through the plexi. You could drill a 2 3/4" (or a little bigger) whole in the plexi, and round it off.
(And the high ball model is different, too; you would have the wrong plate.)
