Looking for joust cocktail sticks.
« on: June 15, 2007, 12:01:08 am »
Does anyone have the joust cocktail joysticks?  they are smaller than the regular joust 2-ways, almost nothing to them at all.  I am planning on building a joust cocktail with some swappable panels, but i would like to make an original set of panels for it.  I keep seeing pics of the horribly converted joust cocktails, so somebody must have a couple of those tiny 2-ways somewhere.

I think I've seen these repro'd somewhere, but can't find it now.  I'll look through my past searches and see if I can find it again.  Right now, all I keep finding is the repro'd art....

I have searched and searched, with no luck.  does anyone know if the defender or moon patrol cocktails used the same small 2-way sticks?

Steven at ArcadeShop had repro shafts for them, but no bases and I have not seen anybody with bases. Sorry. :-\

I know the mechanics of the Defender and Joust cocktail sticks are the same because I've been working on a Defender cocktail restoration.  I searched the web and ebay for pictures to help me in my restoration, so I ended up with pictures of both control panels.

I had one good and one bad stick on my Defender, so I bought a set from a user here that also had one good and one bad ball top so I ended up with one good set.  I still have the two extras, along with a spare set of hacked cocktail control panels that I don't know what to do with.

Both of my spares have rust on the mounting brackets, but are still useable.  One of the sticks has a melted spot about the size of a dime, and the other has a similar sized gouge taken out of it.  I don't have pictures of them right now, but I can take some.

Here are the reference photos I have that shows the sticks are the same:

Looking at your other post, it sounds like you already have the Joust ball/shafts.  If you have the ones for the cocktail, then they would fit my extra parts perfectly.  I just snapped a couple pics, showing the damaged balls and the extent of the rust.  Let me know if you're interested:

The shafts i have are the upright style.   the only place I have found that even mentions the cocktail shafts is specialty plastic but they don't appear to be in business anymore.  :(

Heres the pic though

Odd, Steve used to stock both upright and cocktail shafts, or at least I seem to remember it that way.

Yep, sadly Specialty Plastics isn't around any more.

Since you are not retrofitting the sticks to an existing cabinet, I would just use the upright sticks.

An even better solution would be to find a set of the Joust optical sticks, and use the handles on Sinistar/Arch Rivals sticks.
That would give you 49-ways on the panels, and let you use GGG interfaces on them, but you would still have Joust authentic appearance.

I'm planning on swappable panels for other games,  I would like to have a real joust board set in it and the authentic controls,  but i keep getting outbid for the boards on ebay.  apparently everyone wants a set of joust boards.  I'll probably mame it until i can get the cash to actually win a joust board set auction and then make it a joust/mame combo.
