This is my project announcement called:

PROJECT NBA JAM RESTORATION

After a month of hanging around on the boards and soaking in as much information as I could, i took the plunge today by buying an original NBA Jam game.  I originally wanted to build my own mame machine however I had the itch to have an arcade game in the house and I felt this was the perfect once since I spent so much money and hours playing it when i was young.

The cabinet is in good shape in my opinion.  It does need new side art on the right hand side, a new CP overlay along with the plexiglass covering.  The buttons and joysticks are very responsive and clean and dont need replaced.  Also the coin box was removed and never put back so I need to add one of those along with possibly a new coin door since it looks as if someone broke it when they removed the lock.   The monitor has a good picture however it seems there is very minor burn in which i can only see when the game is off and the right side of the monitor is a tad darker then the left and is also showing wavyness as well.  I haven't researched that issue so I dont know what the monitors problem is.  Maybe someone could help me out on the board and let me know what I need to do to get this monitor back into prestine condition (minus the burn in)

I want to either convert this to the NBA jam tourney edition, nba hangtime or showtime.  From what I know the showtime needs a whole new pcb etc.  I would like the advice before I tackle this project on what would you do to restore this cabinet?

Thank You,
Steve

Personally, I'd keep it as NBA Jam or NBA Jam TE. If you have a working PCB in there, I'd stick with that until you get sick of it or come across a good deal on Hangtime or Showtime.

My opinions might be a bit biased because I remember playing hours upon hours of NBA Jam TE when I was younger.

What did the cab set you back, if you don't mind me asking?

I paid $300 for it and was offered a TMNT board for $30 at time of pickup but passed on it like an idiot.  Not because of value but because of me forgetting i have a 6 and 4 yr old that love games but they are girls and basketball is not their thing.

Restore??? Hell, throw that thing in the gameroom and call it done. Looks dag gone good to me. You are throwing money away if you get new sideart. Give it a good cleaning inside and out if you really fell like doing something. And yeah, you should have picked up that tmnt board for sure.

Thanks for the confidence guys.  I figured I could replace a few things such as the CP artwork and overlay, it is quite worn.  Your right about the side art, it looks good other then the fade, leave it alone I will <---YODA

So did i do good on the price?

Put it this way: most people on here spend over $1000 on a 4 player cabinet that size. You got it fully working for $300. What do you think? ;) ;D

get the NBA JAM TE 1.0 boards..  the one with the mortal kombat ninjas in there. TE is better because it has more players per team.  Though Hangtime does have the create a player feature....

I'd still get TE 1.0 over anything else. Also, try to get those TMNT boards, that game is classic.  If fact theres alot of 4 player games out there you could snag for that cab, like the Xmen game and NHL Open Ice

I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.
