SF3 here we come.  It's probably gonna take a beefy system to run those games though.

Yeah I saw that earlier, HOT DAMN!  I think it will take awhile to get what games I'd like to see running well, but it's still great news!

That is pretty exciting news. From what I understand, there's getting to be more non-working CPS3s than working ones these days.

OTOH, I'm guessing none of my current computers would even be able to run it.

My excitement isn't nearly as much as this guy's:

If you can run Strikers 1945 II, you should be able to run this.

I dunno, it's great to have more things (potentially) added to MAME, but I don't really get the excitement over CPS3, it's a bare handful of fighters (all of which are widely available as good console ports).

I think it's all of 6 games, isn't it?  Jojo's, MVC2, 2 street fighter games, and one other, correct?

There's never been any ports of Warzard to my knowledge.  There are ports of SFIII and the rest of the titles.  Still, there's no substitute for playing the actual arcade versions in a lot of these games - SFIII has a lot of debate over the faithfulness of the Dreamcast version which is probably the most visually faithful.  When things like hit boxes and timing are slightly different, then the game is different.

Of course, this doesn't apply to more than 98% of players, but even they'd say that the arcade version is probably as close to the arcade as you can get.   ;D

MVC2 is Naomi, different system altogether.  There's 3 versions of SFIII, 2 of Jojo's I believe.

Jojo's 1
Jojo's 2
SF3
SF3 Second Impact
SF3 Third Strike
Red Earth/Warzard

I, for one am excited.  I don't care about the Jojo games, but I'm looking forward to actually playing Red Earth

Wow, neat.
By your headline I assumed your CPS3 was broken, not the CPS3 encryption.
Pleasantly surprised.

I'm glad that SFIII is going to be a reality.  I don't care much about JoJo, as I've never been able to get into it on the home ports.  I'd give Red Earth a spin, but it's definitely not on my list.  I wasn't too impressed with the few characters that they threw into Capcom Fighting Evolution.  Of course, I wasn't impressed with that game anyway.

New stuff is always good, don't get me wrong, but look at the comments Haze is getting, you'd think they just added 100 new games. I know some people, especially ones younger than me I imagine, are excited about SF3, but it just seems like more excitement than is warranted is all.

I agree completely, the main thing is that it is impressive that someone broke this encryption finally, but people are somehow overlooking that there are no games on this system. Now CPS2, I'm still crazy for that, but thats because it had a large collection of good games.

I don't even like SFIII that much, but because it isn't currently in mame and because it is new, kids with no respect for classic gaming are jumping in the air with excitement over a new game they can have without paying for it in the near future (as most kids won't be able to tell a whole lot of difference between this and a console port). If anyone is offended by that, you should only be mad at yourself because it's pretty lame to be so "1337" that you only like current games.

Even with all that though, I'm still curious to try out SFIII when it it ready.

Wow.  That makes no sense at all...

Anyone that is happy CPS3 is making progress "has no respect for classic gaming"?  Then, people are "1337" cause they like new games?  Two fairly big (and irrelevant) assumptions.

CPS3 is an example of hard work to break the encryption and possibly emulate a boardset that has a few games on it that are all prone to suicide-ing.  The sooner this is emulated, the sooner dead CPS3 boards can (possibly) be brought back to life.

What he said!

Also, I love the classics, but not to many big names to get into MAME before the modern arcade crash.  Once these last few systems are added, it will just be a matter of getting the emulation perfected and fast enough CPUs to play them.

Either way, cracking a new system is one step closer to the "ALL THE GAMES EVER MADE" scenario!

Cracking new encryptions is always a good thing.  It's always a good thing to see people still putting in the effort to advance the hobby.  Even if only one game used a particular encryption, it would be worth it to crack.  After all, isn't the whole MAME philosophy that they are trying to emulate all of the systems and not just trying to get the games to work?

You try to come off as a purist, but I think you miss the point entirely.

And I am really getting fed up with this resentment that classic gamers have for people who like the new stuff.  Sure, Arkanoid and Tron are awesome, but so were alot of the stuff in the 90s.  Do you make some arbitrary cutoff year where anything after is too "1337" for your high horse?  Go play your 2600 and leave the rest of use alone.

Hey, if you can appreciate both sides then I wasn't aiming at you.
And you are all right, I did rant a bit, but I liked where the bloke above me was going so I got off track.

Some of the new stuff is great too (especially Naomi & Atomiswave), I just am fed up with the "d00d ware r tha r0mz" attitude some people get. Not really saying anyone here was doing that, but it revived that feeling like a flashback.

I'll agree it's important especially since, as PsychoAU said, in this case it helps with the messed up suicide board problem. The only reason I don't already own a CPS board.

So stop acting like I attacked all of you, I made it pretty clear that I only dislike it when folks talk like only anything new is relevant. I know you guys aren't like that, but this kinda thing instantly reminds me of that stuff.

I am excited to try SFIII.  By the time it came out (1997?) I was out of college and not really going to the arcade anymore.  I've heard good things about it so bring it on I say!
