Navigation bar disappears when entering forum

On the main page,when I click on the message board link, the forums go to full screen/the side bar navigation goes away. What is up with this? I prefer having the side bar there.

When I get a chance I'll set it so the button opens with the navigation bar, and the text link opens without the navigation bar
