white grid in mame, can i move it?

when you load up a game and it is loading, there is a white grid that comes up, i assume it is for centering the image?  if so, i cant figure out how to move it.

is that even an option?

it seems like each game comes up different on the monitor, even if its on auto.

You never saw games being turned on or worked on in the arcades, huh?

 :laugh2:

I had to explain it to my wife.
Nothing witty here...move along.

Yep. It's for adjusting the monitor. In the world of real game PCBs, many games have different resolutions and settings. That grid helps you adjust the arcade monitor's controls so that the game fits properly on the screen. It can also be very handy when adjusting the convergence of the Red, Green, and Blue guns of the monitor. If they're off a bit, the white lines will have a halo of a different color.

In MAME, these screens are pretty much useless if you're using a computer monitor since it automatically resizes it to fit the screen. Probably not much help on a TV either.

Some games flash this up while the game is loading. Most have it available in the test menu.
Brevity is not my strong suit.

I noticed Advancemame skips these, as well as automatically skipping the Mame screens. Too bad you can't use fullscreen without it using 'switchres'. Having a GUI that was like Mame32 in adjusting general, and particularly global, options would be killer.
