« on: June 03, 2007, 08:50:07 am »
Hi there , what would be the minimum pc spec that could run N64 games , I'm building a mini machine for my daughter and she now wants N64 games on it , It's only a 1Gz proc , 640 sram 20 Gb drive and I'm going to get a new video card for it (depends on wether it can run these games ,not sure about this either :dunno).

Any help would be great

Looks a bit light.  HD size depends on how many games she'll want.  If she wants a bunch, that won't be big enough, either.

The entire N64 collection including non-US roms comes in well under 20GB...

Can't comment on the processor speed though, I use a modded xbox or a real n64 for n64 games.

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

If you have a decent video card, I'd imagine that a 1 Ghz will probably suffice. If you're trying to do software video though, good luck.

I'd say that it will probably work. Its about the same specs as my old system (well, I had much more HD), and that ran N64 games pretty well. Best way to know is to just try it out of course.

Buy a Wii as it plays N64 Games.

You will have to buy them off Nintendo's channel, but its a great way to build a collection legit.

Besides you can play Game Cube games too!

you really want atleast a 1.5ghz for N64, but if you are only playing single player and/or not the later games - it should be fine.  Just make sure to get atleast an FX era card.

Just get an N64... they're practically free and the games are cheap.  You can't go to a yard sale without tripping over an N64 (usually under a pile of Genesis consoles).

I've got a 3.2 ghz P4HT with 1 gig memory and it still won't run Project64 at any decent reliability or speed, so I stick to the real N64.

You have more than enough machine to run Project64.  Hordes of people are running Project64 satisfactorily with a LOT less machine than this.  You apparently have some other issue.

I have a 2.4 Ghz 1gig ram with an NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200.  I believe its a 128 MB video card.

I've been playing Project 64 for a long time and it runs fine on single player 99% of the time.  Sometimes while playing 3-4 person smash brothers with my roommates it will freeze.

For some reason, I was thinking they were bigger...

I still think you'd want a processor that's slightly better.  Plus you didn't mention what KIND of processor it was.  If it's a Celeron... :P  That also makes a difference.

I do know that an fx card is the bottle neck in your rig abrownbear.  I usually do n64 emulation on a 5700 that is very much overclocked, and it still has problems in multiplayer on some games.  Ive actually clocked more frames with a ti4000 than the 5700, but the latter has a tv tuner in it so it stays in the hometheater pc.

I've got a P4 3gig with 512 ddr2 and the games dont run well for me , thought it was maybe not enough ram or my video card , not sure now  :dunno

Your video card shouldn't matter at all.

I've got a 2.4 Ghz with 512 MB RAM myself.  You're more than set on those langdoguk.

Perhaps you need to verify your video card supports the various plugins that project64 incorporates.  Do some trial and error, checking out each one.  Check the audio plugin, and anything else.

You should be able to run P64 as it stands.  Also, not sure of all the games' compatibility that you want to play, but many of the mainstream ones should play pretty much 95-100% perfect.
