Happ Super Joy Stick Questions
« on: June 03, 2007, 01:31:26 am »
I have some happ joysticks and I have a problem,  when iI turn the joystick it can't reach far enough to hit the micro switch.  I have to put a piece of paper in between the metal arm and micro switch so it will be triggered.  Is there anything I can do to adjust this?  Also the actual stick seems to be kind of short, does any one sell long shafts?

If they are in fact Supers, you can always bend the little metal levers that press the microswitches outward/inward.

And Supers alos have an adjustable shaft length according to Happs ad copy. See if yours is set to the sort length, and adjust as necessary.

I have them set to be long, but the whole stick that comes out is only about 2 inches tall.

I assume you're mounting in a wood panel. Did you recess the stick when you mounted it?

And if you want longer shafts, just check out some of the dealers on the Buy/Sell subforum. A few of them carry long joy shafts, if I remember correctly.

I am using a cardboard box right now so I can learn how to some of this before I go to wood, and what do you mean by recess?

To recess a stick you'd rout some material away from where the stick sits. See the attached pictures.

Do you have this problem when the sticks aren't mounted in anything? A cardboard box  shouldn't alter the throw of the stick. I'm thinking maybe you have the joystick assembled incorrectly? See the exploded view of your stick from the manufacturer's website.

I'd tend to agree with scotthh, cardboard is too thin to really have an effect on the joystick throw. Maybe you could post a pic of how you have it assembled?

That height is about right for a Super. You can of course get a longer shaft if you want, but honestly, most modern arcade games have shafts as long the one in your picture.

My hand just feels kinda cramped, I swear your average arcade sticks were longer.

It's hard to see in those pics, but I think you have your actuator on upside down.  That's why you're having trouble tripping the switches.

Some definitely were. A lot more of the older ball tops had longer shafts. The more modern bat handle joysticks tended to have short shafts. Bat handled sticks really came on the scene with modern fighters, and you want a quick stick with short throw to pull off those quick fighting moves.
