cocktail monitor mounting??

I need to mount a Billabs 27" 100 pound monitor in my cocktail cab, what do you think is the best way to do this is? 

I was going to rip a 2x4 in half to get the correct height and attach them to the 1" plywood top.  I was going to use some large screws and go though the top of the plywood and into the 2x4s then use lag bolts and go though the monitor frame into the 2x4s and into most of the 1" plywood. 

Think that will hold the 100 pound monitor?

I saw some pictures of how someone mounted their monitor into their cocktail cabinet and thought it was neat, so I will share it with you.  I can not remember who it was and do not have any photos which were posted, however, I tried to explain it below (see pic).

Basically, you route out a groove (let say 3/4") all around the cocktail cabinet walls.  You then mount your monitor to a square piece of 3/4" MDF (perhaps by lowering the monitor through the square hole from the top).   Finally you slide the 3/4" square into the routed out 3/4" grooves in the cabinet walls.

Make sense?

yeah, I saw that, but I already have everything built.  I just need to mount the monitor.  Wanna make sure it will hold the weight

Squirrel, from what I am reading you are wanting to mount it to the top?
I wouldn't do that.
Just mount the monitor frame using some angle backets. 3 a side IMO would be plenty.
Use self tapping screws but careful they aren't too long and poke through the front.

If you still are unsure if that will take the weight you could have some vertical supports from the bottom of your cab to the monitor shelf.

why wouldn't you do that??  Two other people I talked to said it should be fine and I think that is what Whammo did on his.  Just trying to get different ideas in case  I missed something.

So you mean the actual top of the machine where the glass is?

Wouldn't it make it difficult to access the internals?
Does the top just sit there?

What sort of access to the inside do you have?

yes the top is hinged and I can open the coin door to access some stuff also.

There is no way I would ever mount a 100lb monitor to a hinged lid.

Seems crazy  'cos every time you would open the lid the monitor opens with it.
Would have to be a mighty strong hinge.

Screw a 1 x 1 " piece of timber around the inside of the cabinet and sit the monitor frame on top.
That would be plenty strong enough.

Im just offering advice, but I wouldn't mount it to the lid.

I have given this a lot of thought also because I have a 27", 100lb monitor as well and I am mounting my monitor to several  :cheers:2x2's screwed and glued to the walls of my cocktail cab. My top is going to sit tight on some dowels to hold it in place. I will have half of one side hinged just like whamoed's but it will be just to gain access to the monitor parts.

so your side is not going to be connected to the top?  that could be an idea, hmmmm

If ya do it my way you could always mount the monitor and top to the trap door later.

Speaking of monitors and mounting, are you going to mount tinted glass between the top glass and the monitor?

No, just normal tempered glass, no tint

maybe in the future I will do this but not now.  I have seen some and they do look nice but I have a graphic underlay that i want to be seen.  I might get a smaller piece later that is tinted
