question about usb wiring on minipac
« on: May 25, 2007, 08:35:57 am »
Hello. sorry for my first post being an "i need help" post. I need help.

I bought a minipac with harness from www.gremlinsolutions.co.uk a week ago and when it arrived it was missing the usb cable. I have been assured that a cable is on it's way first class post but that was a few days ago.

It's only four wires and I have plenty of usb cable around the office so I would make up my own except the wiring diagram is not totally clear.
The diagram on ultamarc's website shows three wires of +5v - pins 2, 7 and 8

If i look at the standard pinouts for usb pin 1 is +5v, pin 2 data-, pin 3 is data+ and pin 4 is ground. So my question is... which pins are =5v and which pins are data+ and data- ?

Obviously the power comes in on the usb so i dont want to get the wrong one and blow the pcb.

I think you are on the wrong track here.
The USB cable does not connect to the switch harness. It connects to the Mini-DIN connector labelled "PC".
You could make one up but it would be much easier to wait for GS to send it! If you do want to make one though, drop me an email and I'll send you a diagram:

Thanks. I was on the wrong track. The unit was sent to me with just the basic wiring diagram and switch harness - nothing else so i was guessing. I now have the cable but I would like to make a longer one if poss. Cheers.

For a longer USB cable just add a USB extension.

I take your point. However - Slight change of plans. I had always intended just to make a control panel to put on the desk. I got talking to a guy at work who knows guys who know guys. Anyway I am now the proud owner of a second hand BAS  arcade machine circa 1990. (and my wife is none too happy). It's a bit beat up (the machine not the wife) and doesn't actually work properly. I am told it did before someone took out the coin box. Anyway I'm going to strip out the old Jamma boards and turn it in to a mame cabinet with a removeable control panel. I cant remember where i saw it but someone else had done this and it looked pretty good. What i want to do is have a standard usb socket on the removeable control panel and use a normal usb lead.

Andy

What are the defaults of pinouts 3-6 on the minipac? 1 switch 7/8 and 2 switch 7/8. I want to use these as my "admin" buttons esc, tab, enter, right shift. Are they blank or do they have values?

Does anyone else know? If so could you please post.
