joystick in water?

If I had some competition-like sticks that either got immersed in water, or were in a really dank, dark place for a while and rusted, could I just clean em up with steel wool and stuff? Would the switches be bad?

Clean up the joystick but for the cost of switches I would replace them all to ensure reliability down the road.

Or for not much more than the cost of replacement switches you could buy an all-new stick. If it's that rusted up the spring's probably shot too. I'd say that it's a lost cause unless you have lots of extra parts laying around.

I usually keep about 10 spares around all the time due to their low ccost.   Joysticks however always cost me more than a whole box of switches due to the weight and shipping costs.  I hear this is going to get even worse with new USPS rates to Canada.

Completely disassemble them when you're cleaning them. Don't take shortcuts.

Well, I don't actually have them, yet.  Wanted to see if the several I found offered were worth picking up for fifteen or so dollars.

Well from what it seems, that fifteen or so dollars could become alot more in replacement parts and labor....

I guess it would have to be a purely personal choice depending on how many sticks you're getting and the condition of each...
