wii internet browser
« on: May 15, 2007, 03:05:43 pm »
Anyone been using the browser?  I‘m using the wii right now to post this.  It‘s not as bad as I thought it might be, but it definately is slower than using a regular keyboard.  :)

I have so many PCs in the house I just can't find any good reason to use the Wii browser.  It is much nicer now since the full version was released.

I've played around with it a bit and it's not too bad.  I do wish they had a better keyboard interface though.  The standard keyboard isn't nearly as familiar with a pointing device to me as with my fingers, and the cell keyboard isn't that great either.

I have had a slight problem with rendering on a few blogs, but all otehr sites have rendered fine for me.

The real use for the wii browser is to play flash games and videos.  Setting up a portal to your favorite games is a good idea.  Now that we can hide the navigation bar, they are quite enjoyable!

Once again, I'll second Howard on the use of the browser...and from where I stand, you'll only see this get better as more sites "adjust" to be Wii friendly, or new sites apear.

Case in point: got to www.viewii.com to be able to truly enjoy YouTube videos on the Wii.  My daughter and I spent two hours the other day looking at old, old cartoons (Mighty Mouse, Woody Woodpecker, etc) on the TV via the Wii browser and VieWii.

I think that's the kind of thing Wii owners need to find -- media and web portals targeted directly for the Wii.  I could ask you where you found viewii.com, but I'm sure all it takes is a little searching.

Problem is, I really don't feel like spending the time to figure out if the internet channel is useful or not.  Perhaps Nintendo should have some type of partner system which tells you what great Wii-specific sites are out there instead of making us search for them.

Perhaps you should get off your fat lazy bum and do 10 seconds of google searching.

This one is the FIRST hit for the search "wii portal" and it contains links to every major wii-friendly site.

Like I said, I don't feel like searching.  Since I won't be using the Wii as a general purpose browser, I'd like to have Wii-friendly sites listed for me on the console interface, all nice an' easy.  Then, if I want to experience the supposed gain of browsing the web on the Wii, it's all right there for me.

You know, make things simple and fun like Nintendo does in general.

Mustard (& others):

Found the VieWii in this article off of wii.yahoo.com one day, along with the 16 others listed.  Be warned, some of the flash games are adult only.
