Should I update my M.A.M.E version?
« on: May 15, 2007, 02:35:38 am »
I'm still using version .86b and my romset is .86 and I'm pretty happy with the games I play and the performance. I'm just wondering if I should update? Am I missing out on something I don't know about?.
I see a lot of BYOACers that stick with older versions that they know work for the games they like (classics etc) and I see a lot of users that use much more recent versions and even those who update all the time.
I pretty much won't be play anything more recent than say Metal Slug 3 (2000) and most of the games I play are pre 1990. My PC id reasonably high spec 1.6GHz, plenty of RAM etc.

I do have 114 now though. They arrived yesterday.

If you want a set lemme know and I will send them to you.
Only roms, no chds.

.99 is the best version for me. The Golden Tee games are in there, and Robotron's speed is fixed, and has the old hisccore.dat support.

Some questions:

Do you use hiscore.dat?
Do you like to use the artwork system?
Do you like Golden Tee games?

If none of these is true, keep your old version.
I have changed my nickname to "Cakemeister". Please do not PM the Buddabing account because I do not check it anymore.

Please read the wiki!

I was using .113 then .114. I noticed slowdown in some of the games (NBA Jam, MK3). I went back to .99 and everythign works great. That was the 1st version for Golden Tee, so I wanted to keep that.
There's only one game that I can't get to work right now on .99 - Rampage, and it's my kids favorites (worked on .114). I don't know why is will not work. It goes to the OK screen then hangs for a second then exits. I audit the roms and it says OK, but doesn't run. Anyone else have this problem? :dunno
