Dayton, OH auction summary. PICTURE LINK ADDED!
« on: May 03, 2007, 01:38:47 am »
This was briefly mentioned in the stickied auction thread by Malacus.

http://www.ohiogas.info/

The link to the cached eBay listing that gave some details is apparently broken. Try this really long one:

Long link shortened by saint

According to this "ad" posted on eBay, there are supposed to be around 150 machines.

We didnt make it to the Columbus auction - Ive got to convince the wife on going to this one :-P

Its alot closer than Columbus for us.

That ad was posted by the very same guy I bought my Centipede cabinet off of, and I believe he is heavily involved in the actual GAS show. Im pretty sure that the show would normally have some machines for sale anyway, and USAA is having an auction ALSO

If we DO make it, i sure hope we can pick up an empty cocktail on the cheap! O_o

EDIT:
http://www.oldgas.com/ohiogas/

The Auction is listed under events.

apparently this is a SUPER AUCTIONS event and is also listed on http://www.superauctions.com

so from what I can tell its completely real. - Might have to do some extra begging with the wife...

Just finally sitting down after getting home from the Dayton auction. This was my first auction, but there were quite a few games and really things went for pretty low prices compared to other auction results I've seen. Most everything was JAMMA conversions with only a few classic cabs (Ms Pac, Vanguard, and a Mr. Do in a Cheeky Mouse cab). There were half a dozen fugly MAME-type cabinets. I think all of those ended up as buybacks (at around $1100). The first Ms Pac that came up (which ran fine but was in an all-black cab) went for $450. At least half of the cabinets there went for under $100. There were a grand total of 4 cocktails. I think there were 6 pins. There were a couple driving cabs, with a roadblasters cockpit being the most exciting. Even those didn't go for much.

Most of the cabs in the dead row were complete junk. Cabs with damaged edges, badly converted controls, and most had 25" tubes, but no monitor chassis. I know this because I took a strole behind them since most didn't have back doors. They pretty much stopped the auction at one point to yell at some guy that was doing the same thing I'd done. They'd announced not to open them, they didn't say anything about peeking inside. I thought this was a bit extreme anyway since it was the dead row cabs. The crowd was mostly gone by that time and most of the last row of dead cabs went for $5-10.

I took quite a few pictures. What's the best photo-hosting site these days? Is there any that let you upload without having to select each file individually?

Got the pictures up. It seems Flickr has downloadable software to let you batch upload pics.

Find the pics here.

I didn't take notes on all of the prices, but I've identified most of the games in the pics. I didn't get a picture of the Skee-ball that someone bought for $50.

Our first auction too...

I grabbed an ok shape Dynamo for 5$ w/ working Super Street Fighter 2: New Challengers and 25" WG 25k7193 with no chassis/flyback - havent decided if this will replace my Centipede for mame or not...

I really wanted that sitdown roadblasters for 185$ but the wife wouldnt have it :-P

Their site says theyll be in sharonville in september....

I also want to thank who-ever it was that gave us a ratcheting strap when it became apparent we were not adequately prepared to load into the wagon.

Was that the one in the middle of the dead row against the wall? If it's the one I'm thinking of it should have had the marquee tossed in the back. I found the marquee behind some other dead cabs further down and had seen the SSF2 board in that one. I just wish I would have done the same with the loose Bust-A-Move marquee that probably went with my NeoGeo cab that was coming apart at the seams. What most people didn't know was that it was the only dead MVS cab with a 2-slot PCB. One of the carts also ended up being Bust-A-Move.

I really wish I would have had room for one of the Die Hard Arcade cabs. That's a pretty sweet cab for $10.

Unfortunately, one cab was all I had room for (see pic below).

There was a bit of drama when I went to leave. As I'd mentioned in the post about picking up the NeoGeo cab, I'd forgotten my wallet and asked a very nice complete stranger from Lima to bid for me. He'd won quite a few games, but hadn't made arrangements to get a truck yet. So he and his friend walked out with me and my new cab and they checked it off on his paperwork. They didn't mark the sticker on my cab. As I was finishing up loading, they demanded to see my paperwork which I didn't have since I didn't bid. So I had to leave the cab loaded with the bottom hanging out of my hatch (while it started raining) waiting on those guys to get back from looking for a truck. I was kind of surprised that the guy checking them at the door actually apologized for making me wait.

I wouldn't mind getting out to one of these auctions.  Are they annual or quarterly or what?  I'm about three hours from Columbus, not sure how far from Dayton (I'm in NE Ohio.)  It'd be nice to pick up another project cab one of these days.

It varies. Columbus auctions aren't that unusual. There's usually 2-3 per year or more. This is the first one in Dayton I've seen. For schedules check out:
