Spy Hunter thumb trigger button replacement
« on: May 02, 2007, 10:56:29 pm »
Unfortunately, while disassembling my newly acquired Spy Hunter yolk, the leads broke off of one of the small momentary pushbuttons (used in the thumb button).  Does anyone know of a replacement momentary button that would work?  I looked at the minature momentary push button from Happ, but it looks to be a bit bigger then the one in the yolk.  Maybe it'll work..?..  Hoping to find someone who may know  :)

I realize that this response is 10 years late, but the RadioShack 275-1547 normally open, momentary, single pole, single throw (SPST) push button switches work as replacements for the Spy Hunter thumb buttons for oil slick and smoke screen that are broken, no longer function, or are stuck.  Some are available on eBay for less than $6 for a set of four button switches.  You can remove the button cap and reuse the original button cap from your Spy Hunter machine.  You might have to trim the pole under the button cap so that the button is not prematurely pressed.  If you can no longer find this specific catalog number, since RadioShack is out of business, you can search eBay including descriptions for the key words, "SPST momentary button 1/4 inch opening 1 1/16 long 3/8 diameter".  You want the switch that has the plastic pole directly under the button cap, not the metal pole, because the plastic can be trimmed.  This information was not easy to find.  I am posting this information here to help anyone else who needs to repair their Spy Hunter steering wheel thumb buttons without having to buy an entire used steering control or control panel, which I was preparing to do until I found this information.  There is more discussion at the following web site:

https://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=217441

The following web site has a picture of the inside of the left steering wheel handle, which was kept together by two tamper resistant screws near the bottom of the picture, where you see the holes.

The specific image is:

http://priglmeier.com/game/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/spy-hunter-handle-small3-06012011-261x300.png

On the right side of the photo near the top is the metal bracket which holds the thumb button for oil slick.  The bracket is held in place by two screws.

The Spy Hunter owner's manual lists the part number, "0017-00032-0132", for the, "MICRO SWITCH", which corresponds to the RadioShack catalog number 275-1547.
