Jukebox help
« on: April 27, 2007, 05:22:24 pm »
I have decided to build a PC Jukebox, got pretty much everything figured out except how to hook up a bill acceptor to my PC that will convert the pulses into a keystroke.

Another thing I would like to do is have two jukeboxes linked together so they could be in in different rooms.  So if someone put money into Jukebox A and someone else put money into jukebox B, the songs would go into the same play list.

I have looked at pretty much every jukebox software on this forum and downloaded all that seems like they would work for me.

So far nordbeat and PC Jukebox seem the best.

If someone can recommend a better one, please do:

I need:
Credit support
video support
search capability

I don't really care for the ones that are a virtual version of an old CD juke box where you flip through the pages and have to enter a code like A5.

Thanks for any help.

If you need credits i am assuming you want to use these in a commercial environment. You will need to test them extensively as i had issues with the song changing over to the next song where the keyboard wasn't read. This ment if you put a coin in at the point in time you didn't get credits. You need to check those two applications do not do this.

Im have not seen any jukebox software out here, with a network thing. Only them, who have webbased interface may work (using http), but they are not really jukebox interface. None of them on the wiki support credits.

I do have plan to have such of feature on my app, but not in the first version (since it dosent have a high priotity), but Im dosent have any plan to support videos (due to limits in BlitzMax).

Below here, can be an offtypic (sorry), But I have to ask:
- It is somebody unique about these pulse based coin meshes? It is anything I should known, so I can avoid these issues.

I have just added support to run freebox in either client or master mode. In client mode it sends the queue requests across to the master. This works using mapped drives and i am just finishing off testing now.

All the client machines are basically just terminals for the main jukebox. I still need to finalise a few things but this should be release later today.

hehe, maybe I should add that too? It basic just add songs to the queue with full info to the other machine. Diddent think about that.

The main problem is setup the same app on all machines, here it would been gode to just copy the database to all machines, rather then recreate the config on each machine....

Well if you map the dirve to build the databse from you can copy the database to all the machines or even use the same database from the master on the client machines. Problem with using the same database is you will get 2 machines trying to access the file at the same time and that might cause file access issues.

I just need to add the code to save the settings and it will be up and working. It will still require some tweaks i think but i will not be able to set up my network until tomorrow as i have to do a karaoke gig in just over an hour so i think i will have it out tomorrow
