Marquee ID. Jumper and Super Star
« on: April 27, 2007, 02:42:53 am »
I have two marquee's that I can't find in the KLOV. Considering their size, I don't think they're arcade marquees. Or maybe they were custom made for someone. In any case, they're about 3" tall and about 20" wide.

One is "Jumper", the other is "Super Star."

Anybody know anything about them?

The only logo I can find is on Super Star in the lower right. It shows a small white circle with a mask, a music note, a coil(?) and the letters "ACA".

I guess I should have posted this in Artwork?

Being that size I wonder if they might be for a slot or pachislo machine.

And what lovely artwork..I think I'd jump too if I had a big scary animal/monster behind me.  :)

I guess I should have posted this in Artwork?

Maybe artwork or arcade misc. would have been more technically appropriate, but you'll probably see more response in this forum. Besides, I don't see this thread as much different as the "what is this game that I remember" type threads. Only this time you know the name but not the game.

I kind of like the red Jumper myself as well. Kind of grows on you a bit.

Coincidently enough, I have some red T-molding lying around. If I can scrounge up a nice LCD screen, I might have a small bartop in the making.  ;D

Thought pachislo was a typo until I Googled and found this.

That's pretty ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up. The local Indian casino has Shinobi ones. Looks like it's a not-so-subtle attempt to get the gamers of yesteryear to get into gambling.

Pachislo machines are very popular in Japanese casinos. I'm not sure if they even have the slots that we're used to.

There are a ton of them that get imported into the US too. In many states you can't legally sell (or own) slot machines (considered a gambling machine). You can however sell and own Pachislo machines since the buttons stop the wheels instead of being random. It's considered a game of skill so it is allowed.

You could always install one of these into one though: http://www.pachislo.com/pachislo/autostop.html

There are a ton of game and anime themes. A buddy of mine has a really nice Lupin the 3rd one. I'd love to see a Shinobi-themed one. That's my all-time favorite game. The site above mentions a Tekken one.

I've also seen pictures of pachinko machines with a video game theme. Here's a Street Fighter one to match the Pachislo.

More generic info on Pachinko: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachinko

EDIT: forgot to add the pic.

I'd love to see a Shinobi-themed one. That's my all-time favorite game.

I'll see if I can take a snapshot of the Shinobi one. I doubt they allow cameras in the casino, so I suppose I can try it with my crappy cell camera.

I'll have to find out exactly what they can do to me if I get caught. It's an Indian casino, so I'm not sure if the state having no authority over them would cause problems for me.

I was thinking they may have been part of a display to advertise for console games, but didn't find anything....

As for the Super Star, the musical note and design leads me to believe it may have been part of a music-related game, maybe even a cheap jukebox or karaoke machine.

The Jumper definately has a circus theme going.  Maybe a bootleg copy of something more well known?  Like Circus Charlie?

I have a similarly sized "Star Fighter" marquee that looks nothing like the Star Fighter listing on KLOV....

Don't worry about it too much. After reading it I did a Google search and found someone describing it a little more. Apparently it's based on the PS2 game. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.

After looking at some pictures, I don't see any machines that have panels similar to what you have.

I'd still guess they're from some random non-arcade machine. Maybe some type of redemption game?
