Looking for some color codes
« on: April 19, 2007, 11:41:40 am »
I've tried searching around and I haven't found what I'm looking for. I'm trying find the paint codes from Rally-X for a restoration project. I guess I could take the flyer in and have them try to color match there, but I want to know if there's a good resource site online for the codes.

Do most of you guys just hunt the color codes down one by one, or is there an "authority" site on color codes? If not, would I get a good amount of contributions if I just went ahead and started one?

I don't know, but perhaps this thread or the OP could help you...

prOk has a bunch of good color codes, but no RallyX. I guess you can see if KMC*********************************** has some.

Thanks.

I'll look into creating a resource site dedicated to color codes. prOk's site is good, but maybe I could find a way to encourage more people to submit and share their knowledge (plus offer Home Depot counterparts).

Don't forget to include universal coloring codes or whatever they call them. Not everyone lives near a Home Depot or Lowes. Plus staying with just color names might run into problems when the stores discontinue that "powder gray wolf" or that "summer wheat chafe" that is a perfect match.

I'll look into it. I love how much info there is on arcade restoration; it just seems that sometimes finding what you need is tough. I was kinda shocked to not find more info on color codes than I have. I'll try to work on the site over the weekend if I get some time. When it goes live (it might be a few weeks), I'll announce it and put out a call for contributions.

You probably ran into this one, but here you go....

http://www.appolo.com/colorcodes/color_codes.htm

prOk refutes a few of these on his codes page, so there is a bit of a debate to be had on some color codes.

Just an aside, when I worked at Home Depot a couple of years ago, the color dye ratios is actually printed on a label affixed to the paint can when you get it mixed. You can also request the label w/o the paint. In other words, you can have them scan a color chip, print up the label and you can just take the label with you.

Unforunately, I didn't work in the paint department, so that's the extent of my knowledge on the topic.
