fluorescent Lights?
« on: April 18, 2007, 02:48:40 pm »
Gentlemen,

This is definitely a noob question and probably a dumb one, but just curious.  Do you guys recommend any specific fluorescent light fixtures / bulbs for your marquees?  As I'm getting closer to finishing my cab I'm thinking about the little things to finish it off.  Maybe recommendations on where to get them as well.  Thanks for your help!

I just used one of those cheap 'under cabinet' fluorescent fixtures from the hardware store.  Works great.

I did the same.  I think it was a GE one that was about $22 at Home Depot.

You can get them from your local hardware store too. It doesn't have to be anything specific, any 18" under-cabinet fixture should be fine.

I initially looked at Lowes but found the same one at Wal-Mart for less than half of what Lowes wanted.  I think I paid around $11 or $12 for mine.  I don't normally shop at Walmart but...

Home depot also tends to have lower prices on them than lowes. Not only that, but they have better selection than lowes at my stores (of course though, HD always has better selection on everything).

Just be sure to get a standard size. You can actually pay more for a smaller rare size than a larger common size.

That's mostly what you find in real arcade cabs anyway.

That said, I've been trying out some long cold cathodes instead recently. They work pretty well when you run a couple of them in there and they have the advantage that they last WAY longer.
