AWESOME Arcade Paintings and Artwork ********
« on: April 18, 2007, 03:31:13 am »
I went to the opening night of the "I Am 8-Bit" art exhibit in Hollywood tonight.  It was really cool and packed to the gills. There must have been about 500 people total.  They were lined up down Melrose.

For those of you who don't know, "I Am 8-Bit" is an art show consisting of artwork that a gathering of well known/famous artists create which is based upon their favorite old-school video game characters.

Here is their site: http://www.iam8bit.net/

Anyway, this isn't just a post to irritate people with my asterisks.

Here is a link to a bunch of photos that I took of the artwork. There is some REALLY awesome stuff.  Make sure you flick through it all.

Peace!

Weird. I liked that show, though.

Did you check out "Narc Vs. Aids"?

Very disturbing to say the least.

I think this is my favorite. I wonder if they will be selling prints of these.

Actually, they are. That was a print.

$75.00 and I believe it's limited to 50 prints.

If you want one let me know cause that stuff sells fast. I can pick one up tomorrow.

Wow - they're great photos.  Thanks for taking them - we never get to see those sort of exhibitions in Oz so I for one appreciate it.

Is this one: http://www.flickr.com/photos/koolmoecraig/463699670/ available to purchase a print of?

And what's the scoop on this one? http://www.flickr.com/photos/koolmoecraig/463701448/ Is that 3D like it looks, or flat? Is it available to purchase?

I'm jealous, I want to go check it out :)

Hey Saint,

That Dragon's Lair one did not have any prints offered and the original was like $2000. And I think it was sold already. That picture doesn't do it justice at all. It was beautiful.

The Tron light bikes are really cool.  It is 3-D. The entire piece is made out of vacuum formed plastic.  If I'm not mistaken, the frame is actually part of the art work. A giant piece of black plastic formed and painted.  If I remember correctly, that one was about $800.

I am going to stop by there tomorrow and find out if they are going to be offering prints on any of the others. I'll let you know.

I was fortunate to acquire the 'Burgertimers' plush set.

I am not in the area.  If you are going by on Thursday, would you check for prints for me as well?  I'll send you a pm with contact info.

These are the two I like best

http://www.flickr.com/photos/koolmoecraig/463701120/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/koolmoecraig/463697462/

Are all the prints $75?  I'm considering getting one if available...
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

If anyone is going back, could you check the quality of the pictures in the i am 8-bit: book?  I am thinking about ordering the book on-line, cutting out the art I like, and having it matted and framed.

Smaller than the big prints of course, but a bunch of those hanging on a wall together might look good.

Thanks!

Crap I'm always late.  I hope these two go up for sale on the site.  I'd buy those in a second.

There aren't any prints of those.

You can buy the original Dragon's Lair painting for $3000 though if I remember correctly.
