Booting Direct to Dos audio.cpp for game?
« on: April 16, 2007, 10:30:56 pm »
I'm running Windows 98SE with:

Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V
Sound Blaster AudioPCI 64V Legacy Device

I've turned off the gui in the msdos.sys file so my system boots to the command prompt when I power on.

On a fresh power on, I type cd\pq4 <enter>, sierra <enter>.  It goes to a black screen and says error 9 audio.cpp.  I have the command
SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D1 H7 P330 T6
SET SBPCI=C:\SBPCI
set up in my autoexec file so i'm stumped to what this is telling me.  I've read a lot of creative labs products won't work in dos, but i tend to think there would be a way to.  also, when i go to dos from windows, i do not have this problem.

just tossin this one out there.

The AudioPCI 64V probably needs a compatibility driver and posssibly a PnP driver loaded in DOS.  In addition, the Creative PCI cards are sensitive to the DPMI provider used.

got it.  i actually found dos drivers at http://easymamecab.mameworld.net/html/snddosdr.htm

and luckily my sound blaster audiopci was compatible with one of them.  it came zipped with an install.bat you double click, and it sets everything up.  (copies files to C:\ and replaces your autoexec.bat and config.sys files for you... don't worry it also makes a .txt file of your existing autoexec and config files incase you change your mind).
