Donkey Kong Buttons
« on: April 16, 2007, 05:43:15 pm »
Does anyone know where I can get new nintendo replacements buttons for Donkey Kong. I need 2 blues and 1 orange, not having much luck finding replacements.
Thanks

I got a dumb question - are Nintendo buttons different than the HAPP buttons?

I seem to remember them having a lot more travel.

They are about 1/16" smaller than standard buttons like Happ sells. That means that if you have a Nintendo CP, standard buttons will be too large to fit in the button holes without modifications to either the buttons or CP.

They do seem to have more travel, but it is adjustable to a point. Nintendo buttons are kind of like leaf switch buttons (i.e., they have a separate bracket underneath for holding the switch) except they use lever-actuator microswitches. The microswitch can be adjusted closer or farther away from the bottom of the button to change the amount of button travel before engagement.

I wonder why Maxim didn't berate the OP for not just "restoring to a working state" the original buttons.  Surely they're not broken.  ;)

Point taken.  I was wondering what the failure rate of the nintendo switches are compared to a Happ microswitch button
I used to be cool,  then they changed what cool was

Are you just so excited about the argument in the other thread that you thought you should carry it over to this thread?

Those are just the buttons and nuts. You'll also need these for each button (if you don't already have them) - http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=PBMSHOLDER

$45 (before shipping) is pretty expensive for 3 buttons, holders, and switches. You might look into getting them complete used, or enlarging the holes in your CP to accept standard buttons.

He asked for buttons, I gave him a link for buttons ...

rfr341 -- if your holders or switches are broken, let me know ... I'm pretty sure I have four or five in a box in the shop.

Cheers.

Thanks for all the info. I have a picture of my control panel and I am wondering if the white joystick and the red jump button are originals. I thought that donkey kong came with a black joystick and an orange jump button. Just trying to restore my game to original so I am trying to figure out if these parts are factory or not.

Black joystick, orange jump button and blue player 1 & 2 start buttons.

So if you want to restore your game to original, you'll need to get a Nintendo joystick. You can get them used for $20 here - http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=NIN8WAY or probably cheaper on eBay.

Edit: You'll want a 4-way of course. If you can only find an 8-way joystick, or end up with one that doesn't have a restrictor at all, you could contact this guy from an RGVAC thread -- Link -- to see if he still has any 4-way restrictors, or can make more.

Edited by saint. Someone has to be the first to knock it off ... I vote for me.
