How to configure trackball settings in MAME??

I just installed my trackball and it works but it is hard to control. Seems that the sensitivity and speed are very slow. I've tried playing around with individual games to set the mouseX parameters and that seems to make things work better.

However, I got to thinking, there has to be a better way. Is there a way to set global trackball config perhaps in the mame.ini file that would be in effect for all games? If so what are the parameters to set?

What is the recommendation for speed, autocenter, sensitivity, etc.. that seems to work best for most games?
