Do coin doors work with I-Pac/Mini-Pac?
« on: April 06, 2007, 09:20:47 pm »
I want my cab to have an authentic working coin acceptor that gives credits but the Ultimarc site says that the I-PAC is not designed to be used with coin doors, is it possible for them to work?

They work just fine but not for commercial use.

An I-Pac doesn't know a coin door from a button from a joystick. They are all just switches.

Can I splice 2 switches to one input on the I-PAC so I can have pushbutton credit/coin door?

There is a space to hook a wire into on the IPAC called "coin1" and "coin2".  When you buy a coin door and mech it should have a switch that you would wire into the coin1 and coin2 on your ipac.  When you put a coin in it will give you credits on your game.  Is this what you're talking about?

You can wire the switch from your coin door and a button so that you have both functions on a coin input.  Push the button or drop in a coin and they will both register.

If you want to have both a button that acts like a coin has been inserted and use the coin door you need to wire both the coindoor and button to the same input.  It would be parallel wiring.  The "common" connection on them would go to the ground like all the rest of the buttons, and could be part of a daisy chained ground or not, and the "NO" connection on both of them would go to the appropriate coin in connection on the Ipac, they could be daisy chained or both run all the way back to the connection.  The circuit would look like this:

This only applies if the coin door is a a simple type with a microswitch. If its a powered electronic type of mech these can be rather tricky since there are so many types of signal output. Some are 12 volts pulled high which will cause damage, some are 12 volts pulled low which are OK, some are 5 volts which are OK, etc etc.

Andy... I have a thread going about my issues...

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=80742.msg844883#msg844883

...with hooking up my Happ Over/Under coindoor to the Ipac2.  (Here's my door: http://happcontrols.com/coindoors/40003800.htm

The grounding seems to be an issue.  Do you know if these work with my Ipac2?

I posted in the other thread too about this. The comparitive coin mech Ultimarc supplies works fine using the 5.5v zenerdiode to change the coin signal from the native 12v down to the i-pac friendly 5v. As Andy says, the i-pac just senses regular 5v microswitch-type presses, which is fine for a single-denomination, switch-type coin mech. If your coin door/mech uses an electronic credit board (as most commercial-use mechs are designed to), it's a little trickier as the output signal is not quite the same - delivering the signal in relay pulses depending on the coin amount inserted.

I talked to Andy and he said it wasn't a 12v thing, it was probably a microswitch thing... which it turned out to be because apparently Happ's switches are opposite of button switches.  The ground is the same, but the positive is flipped.

I attached the wiring that worked, the red is the positive, the blue is the ground.
