BYO rotary stick
« on: April 12, 2003, 01:35:36 am »
Hi

Wondering if anyone here has ever tried hacking say a happs ultimate to turn it into a rotary:

just some sketchy ideas, but I'm thinking about a mouse hack, mounting the encoder wheel and optic board from a mouse to the end of the joystick shaft  (maybe using the groove where the e-clip slots on) and modifying the shaft mounting to take some kind of simple sleeve bearing through the actuator.

got an old ultimate lying around thats not much use for anything else  :)  might give it a try.

any thoughts?
Shut up! Bloody Vikings!!

I would guess it would be VERY hard to do.  Keeping the optics so it moves with the joystick is the hard part.

It will probably be cheaper in the end just to buy the happs one.  Or go for a SNK 12 way.
