trackball mount confusion
« on: April 03, 2007, 08:03:20 pm »
I want to get a highlip trackball.  This is the one, right?

http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/56010011.htm

Is this the mount that goes with it?

http://www.happcontrols.com/trackballs/55032100.htm

It seems as if this is the best mount, at the best (lowest) price.  BUT I've read threads that say the larger mount (this one?) is the expensive one and that the highlip uses the normal mount.  So this info seems contradictory and I've also seen threads that say other trackball info on Happ's site is wrong...

In this instance, does Happ have the wrong info?  Is this correct?

Thanks,
Rick

I had the same question and actually phoned Happ a few weeks back about it...

The answer I was given was that the 3" high-lip trackball should fit in any of the 3" kits that they have, except for the kit made for the high-ball.  While on the phone I asked about the parts on the following page, and was told that either "55-1101-00", "55-1102-00", or "55-0321-00" (the one you're referring to) would fit a 3" or 3" high-lip trackball:

According to the guy I spoke with on the phone, the "high-ball" mounts the ball higher and so it requires a wider hole to put the ball through.  As for all of the other 3" kits, he said that they'll all fit a 3" high-lip ball.

I hope he's right too... I'm about to order the "55-1102-00" mounting kit myself...

Can anyone else confirm this as being correct or just crap?

Confirm.

The highlip aka GT, and the normal TBs fit the 55-1101-00, 55-1102-00, & 55-0321-00 kits, and 56-5530-00 plate.  I have the first two kits.  I'm guess the last kit is the cheapest due to volume and/or supply & demand, even though it's probably better (but I don't have one to compare).

The highball needs a bigger center hole (3.25" vs 3"), and thus need either 55-1103-00 or 55-1104-00 kits.  I have the latter and sure enough, it has a bigger hole that fits the highball TB great, but is too big for the normal TBs.  ;)  (Actually, if you don't mind a 1/8" gap all the way around your normal or highlip it will "work". ::))

BTW.... what is the thickness of the trackball mounting kit?  Is it the same 1/16" as it is for the mounting plate?

In this thread, divemaster mentions that "the highlip mounts have a bigger footprint than the regular 3" mounts". Does anyone know the dimensions of the highlip (Golden Tee) mount?

Edited to clean up links.

There's a little more to it, as there is no "highlip mounting kit".

The highlip trackball is the same as the normal TB.  The basic 3" kit is 6" square with 3" center whole, and works with both the normal and the highlip models.

The highball has is bigger mounting plate.  The highball kit 6.5" square with a 3.25" center hole.

The heavy duty mounting kit you linked is also bigger than the basic plate.  IIRC (and I don't have one of these myself so don't quote me) this is 6.5" square with 3" center hole.
edit: see below for actual size (thanks scott)

I just measured a 55-0321-00 Heavy-duty 3” Trackball Mounting Kit aka Golden Tee PGA Tour Version trackball mounting kit). The top plate is 7 3/8" square and 1/16" thick. This almost jibes with the template on page 3 of the Global VR Golf Control Panel Conversion manual, which says the plate is 7 7/16" square. But who's going to quibble over a sixteenth?
