I have installed a track ball on my system but when trying to play missile command on mame the track ball does not work. Any help would be great.

You have posted in the Hardware Review area where there is not much traffic compared to the main area.
You will have to provide more info before someone can assist you.

1.  What version of mame are you using.

2.  What trackball did you install and what is it's interface?  eg USB or Mouse Hack

3. Does the trackball work as a mouse in windows?

Also, have you setup the trackball to work with missle command?

If not, from the game hit tab (assuming you're using mame default keys), then scroll down until you see analog controller X (or something similar, I don't recall the wording).  Hit enter, and quick roll the trackball left or right.  The setting should change.  Repeat for Analog Y.  Exit and play.
