  • I WANT TO BUILD GOLDEN TEE
Lighted Pushbuttons
« on: April 11, 2003, 04:05:42 pm »
I am currently constructing a custom Golden Tee panel...i have decided that i am going to probably get a custom overlay for the panel b/c i am not going to be using the standard white trackball and white buttons. Its a GT 99...i am going to used an LED lit Green translucent ball, and i hope to use translucent lit pushbuttons as well. My question is- is there somewhere where i can buy pre wired lit pushbuttons, like normal pushbuttons not the lighted ones that Happ sells. Also, are the lighted buttons that happ sells sufficient? are they any good, is there a difference? Thanks.

there is a thread or 3 about using superbright LED's to light up buttons. use the Search feature or browse through the first couple of pages inthis forum and you should see it.

Ok, i realize that it is quite lame to respond to my own posts...but at this point my only concern is the performance difference between the Happ lighted pushbuttons and the translucent underlit pushbuttons, like in Ampappa's cab here http://ajmmame.webajm.com/Controls.htm. Has anyone tried using the happ lighted pushbuttons, and if so, is there a difference?

My guess is that you would not like the feel of the Happs lighted buttons for game play.  The bezel shape would intrude into your physical space much more than regular PBs and you would probably have a completely different feel. The translucent buttons on the cab example that you game are arcade type PBs and would have a better feel then the Happs lighted buttons.

Just My Opinion

so would you recommend using translucent leaf switches with an LED inside of it?

If you want that total glowing PB look then that is about the only choice.   Leds in regular PBs give a sort of spot lighting and would not give the glow that the old style translucent PBs would produce.

well, unfortuanatly it hasn't yet. I am currently at college and right now my GT project is in my storage room at home. My plan is to take the old cab, put in a GT 99 (already done that), fix the trackball problem (i have a specialty harness needed for that in the mail as we speak), construct a new CP for it, paint it black, get a new marquee, and then light that mo-fo up to make it into the sweetest old-golden-tee-turned-somewhat-newer-golden-tee this side of the mississippi.

So, that said, i am spending my time at school doing all of this research, learning what i am doing. Then my easter break is going to be crazy cab construction time..
