$523,-

I know they're rare but this seems like a lot of money to me....

So how good are my chances on repairing a broken color vec monitor ?

:) Well.....let's put it this way: it's not mine yet :D
But it shouldn't really be any harder than fixing a "normal" raster monitor I guess ?? Maybe the parts are more expensive/

Did your magic 8 ball tell you that.

Much less technical support as well.

negative...but with the right parts (bob roberts repair kit) and a little help (monitor forums) im sure you will be able to handle it (once you get one)

WOW !! The color vectors are harder to come by...... but damn, you would never catch me spending that much on a color vector even if it was in a complete machine. You could find a complete Tempest for that price.

btw.....Vectors are MUCH easier to repair in my opinion.

It's not harder to fix a vector, there's just less info out there for people who aren't monitor guys.  There is also a distinct lack of replacement HV transformers for some models.

That's crazy. Someone should design a new one if people are willing to pay $500 for them.

It would be a tremendous setup cost and you're not going to sell very many.  You'd have to be able to guarantee at least a couple thousand units sold.  Ain't gonna happen.

Feh.

All it takes is two dumbasses* who don't know how to bid properly* to run an item up sky high and that's all that happened here.  Shouldn't have topped half of that. . .

*they are not dumbasses who don't know how to bid properly when they bid on MY stuff.    ;D

A strong working, well aligned color vector monitor is worth well over half that amount.

Probably not. Unless you can get whoever owns the rights to Atari to release new 25th anniversary Tempest or Star Wars cabinets.

I'm sure there is quite a few people that would do a ZVG cabinet if new vector monitors were available. But even that isn't ideal since you have to run ZVG under DOS and DOS has almost non-existant USB and PCI sound support.

Dude, kids today would think those 25th aniversary games would be defective !

They have no concept of wire-frame graphics.....

And let's be honest.....the only reason vector's once excisted was that there simply was not enough computer power to fill in 3-D graphics.....if the engineers would have had the possibilities to create a Star Wars with filled in polygons, you bet they would have done it.

The death of vectors was signed by "I, Robot".
From that game on, there WAS enough horse power to do "real" 3D........

However that doesn't mean that I would not LOVE to see a fresh run of vectors.....there's something about vectors.....and we all know it :D

New or not, after 25 years it's going to need a little work.

It must be vector week, because this V2000 just hammered at $470.00.  To be fair, it was represented as minty, just-out-of-the-box new.

ArcadeMaze

NO WAY!! Is that New Mint and just out of the box..... It might have been stored in a box but it's also well used, just from looking at the grime patern on the HT Lead and the burn marks in various other places. Scam!!

He also says he doesn't know if it works..... I hope the buyer is prepared for some expensive repairs.

The only expensive parts on a vector are the HV transformer and the tube.  Just like on a raster.

My kids LOVE vector games.  Last time we hit Funspot they both sprinted to get first shot at Tempest.

I'm not entirely sure about that. My little brothers who are 15 and 16 asked me if they could use my green and amber monitors so the old monochrome games they found on my floppy disks would look better on their PC. I have no idea how they hooked them up to their VGA boards but they did.
