Marquee retainers

Hey guys,

I am looking for an alternative to the Happ marquee retainers. If possible, I would like to find something locally. Does anybody have any suggestions of things they have used as suitable retainers? Something at home depot or lowes or something?

I am looking for something in black.

The Happ ones work and are a snap to install, I just hate paying that much shipping for a 12 dollar part.

Get plastic corner protectors.  you will probably find them in the wall paper section.  They come in clear plastic.  Cut it to length and spray paint them black.  Then you can use them to keep your marquee in place.  I plan on leaving mine clear so all the artwork shows.

are those flexible enough to bend greater than ninety degrees...?

Dropped ceiling wall angles are 10 ft strips of  L shapped light metal that work very well for retainers as well.   Available at any place that sells dropped ceiling installation materials such as Home Depot.

I am headed to home depot in the morning to get material for a couple of new cabs, so I will take a look!

I would look at get molding for this ...... it is not "T"-molding but rather "L" shaped molding, used for wall corner protection.

I've been to several Home Depots and only a couple of them had a section with aluminum and other metal L brackets in various lengths. On my last arcade, I made mine out of 3/4" Oak. When I build another one, it will be with the L shaped bracings.

In the wood trim section there is also a wood version of this corner round. It is kind bulky so it won't look great on most cabs. I used it on our Dinocade cab because it was ok that it looked a bit chunky.

Not to dissuade you from alternatives, but have you checked divemaster or ponyboy in the buy/sell/trade forum?  They do not rape you on shipping like Happ does and they carry most of their products including T-molding.

Home Depot has essentially aluminum "L" poles (for a lack of a better word) in different lengths.  I usually get the 4" length for like $6.00 and cut it to make two brackets.  They hold paint decently enough and look great.

Yeah, I have used divemaster before.....but I hate paypal with a passion. The last time I went through divemaster it took 2 weeks....divemasters part only took like 2 days, so I am not blaming him at all for the time delay....paypal takes WAY too long to clear payments

I used the same thing.  3/4" by 2 feet.

Yup, aluminum angle rods is what I use too. Strong, light, and drills easily.
