Mala Question?
« on: March 25, 2007, 09:50:41 am »
I'm running 0.58 cause I'm using a super old PC and I have a lot of ROMS for v.058.  Mame runs fine but I'm having issues starting Mala.  It says that it can't find the .EXE file although I have it located in C:Mame.  What am I missing?  Is there a special command line of Mame that I need to use with Mame v. 0.58 other than v113?  I just need a little help here and then once I get into Mala I can figure out everything else.  Cheers!

Is the path in the configuration

"c:mame\mame.exe"

or

"c:\mame\mame.exe"

I just need a little help here and then once I get into Mala I can figure out everything else.

So Mala will not start mame.exe or you cannot get Mala.exe to start?  What is the exact error message?

If you are saying that the Mala.exe is in the c:\mame folder, that would not be ideal.

OK when words fail bring on a screenshot  ;) Please post a screenshot of config-mameconfig-basics

Also as the MaLa website says "MaLa supports the Windows command line version of MAME with XML ROM info (> 0.84), "  But your can make it work for earlier versions. I use mame .79.  To do so you need to obtain a XML file form mame 0.84 or above. If this is too hard for you PM me your e-mail adress and I will send you one

OK, so here's what's happening.  I have my mame v.058 exe.  in C:\mame/mame32.  I ran Mala on my XP machine running mame v106 and it worked perfectly.  Maybe I'm running too old of a mame version (.058) but once again it works well with my slowwwwwwww pc at the moment.  Anyway, when I try to direct the mame exe. in Mala to my C:\mame/mame32 folder I get the message below (see pic).

Loadman you stated I can get a XML file form from you.  That would be great cause I have no idea how to go about doing that  :dizzy:  Also, can you give me some direction on how I install the new XML file?  Cheers!

Don't use mame32 with any FE..

Anyway I take it you mean: C:\mame\mame32

Use Command line mame

You didn't send me a e-mail to send a XML file to?

The XML file sits in your mame folder

So do I rename my mame32exe to mame.exe?  Like I said, I followed the same steps with XP and it worked out fine.  Anyway, I'll wait for your email and give it a try.  All I do is put the XML file in my mame folder, or do I have to put the file directory somewhere in Mala?

Dude, No offence but you need to do some reading or this post is going to be very very long.  ;)

Start with the Wiki : http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Contents#Software_for_your_cabinet

No  ;) you need to download 'command line mame' from http://www.mame.net/oldmame.html
mame32 is great for newbies and on a stand alone pc but it can sometimes cause problems when run from a FE

Use the XML file I sent you when you want to use mame version (.058) as .58 won't be able to generate one itself

It is 2.8 meg.  It may have been rejected. Have you got a e-mail that can handle that?

Or you could download say mame .89 and create one yourself? download it and Point MaLa to mame89 and get mala to create the xml file. Then change it back to mame58

My email should be able to handle that meg.  Maybe I'll try the other method and I'll let you know what happens.  Thanks.
