Sweet deal on Craigslist!
« on: March 24, 2007, 05:17:08 pm »
Man, this is awesome!

"This is a USB, custom arcade controller with two sets of controls, real HAPP Controls buttons and sticks (same as used in arcades,) based on Microsoft gamepads. Completely Windows compatible (no drivers necessary,) works great with emulators, arcade-style PC games, etc. Simply plug into your Windows PC, and play.

The control surface tilts to any angle, is free-standing, but can be detached for floor or table use"

Only 250 for a bookshelf with some Happ stuff on top and gamepad hacks! RAD!!!

Yeah, unless I am missing something, $250 is not a good price for that.

Now if you are meaning it is $2.50, that's a totally different story.

Just as it is,

From what I understand, retail is usually about six (6) times what it cost to make the product.  And most people aren't inclined to make something even this simple. With the panel tilted down, I could see those corners being real uncomfortable.

You know the sad thing is, I think I have that exact same hutch on top of my desk.

It looks like all he did was bore some holes into a bookshelf and stick the controls in there.

I didn't even think of those corners....imagine being the poor bastard stuck on P1 and getting that corner in your joystick arm during a furious Street Fighter match....

Is that a pull-start handle on the side, like on a lawn mower?  Perhaps this thing is more involved than it might appear.   ;)

I think he is demonstrating the amazing engineering of the "tilting control surface"....my second guess would be a pull start  ;D

I wonder if it could make toast?

Yeah, almost like what indy car pit crews use to adjust the angle of the wing.

But I think Chris G is right.....I think it is a pull start handle

It looks like it's from a lawn mower but maybe not the pull starter grip, I'm thinking it's the hand nut that holds the lawn mowers two handle pieces together.  :laugh2:

Yeah, almost like what indy car pit crews use to adjust the angle of the wing.

So that "bookshelf" is really the rear wing of an Indy Car. In that case, recover the wing and sell it to some Indy wannabe to recover your costs.

Duh! ::)

Maybe I could sell it to some punk "fast and the furious" kid and he could mount it on his Saturn to go with the body kit that is actually pieces from 3 other kits. Then Xzibitz could come along and help him Pimp his ride and have a big 50 inch screen come out of the hood, and he could use the Happ Controls on the spoiler and have a kick ass showcase cabinet with wheels!

That would totally rule

The dudes got one huge set of onions asking $250.00 for a pull start model. I once pulled my arm out of it's socket from the kick back on one of these. Now if he offered an electric start model with additional space for book storage then I might consider but the way it is now ? ...huh...I'm no idiot.

i dont like the design, the white is ugly and not much space for the hands ;)

but i build myself an external CP too, i needed something like
a sitdown cab control panel. With all the material and hours
spent working $200 is nothing....

anyway, here you can see my cp:

Ghosty.

Your CP better than that one on CL in so many ways.  Yours has style, the bottom is clearly closed in, the legs look cool, etc, etc, etc...

The most I could see paying for that CL cp is about $100 and that's if the parts are all like new, high quality and the encoder is a GGG or Ultimarc product.  I built my 2 desk/lap top cp boxes with all new parts for less than $100 including shipping.  I hope to maybe sell mine when I am ready to move on, but I think that the quality of build makes a big difference.  That thing seriously looks like a bookshelf from a Target or Walmart, with some holes drilled into it and some chunks of 2x4 t-nut and wing-bolted to it for "adjustabiltiy".  I see the merits of what the builder was attempting, I just don't see the $200 USED product value.
