Coin Door Idiot! Got an easy question!
« on: March 24, 2007, 11:18:44 am »
Hey, this is embarassing, but I know I'm missing something...but what?

I bought this over/under coin door from happs

http://www.happcontrols.com/coindoors/40003800.htm

I thought that it would have all the stuff I need to make a working coin door but I'm clearly missing something.  What piece(s) do I need to complete the job?  Seems like I'm missing a coin comparison and reject aspect of the thing.  Thanks!

Nathan

The door you bought was advertised & sold without coin mechs (they are listed as optional equipment). You need to either already have two coin mechs to put in the door or you need to buy two coin mechs (a.k.a. coin acceptors and coin chutes).

I would say that the listing on their site is a bit misleading, or unclear to say the least.  Under optional equipment it lists "forign or token coin mechs" and then also says "fitted with $.25 U.S. coin mech."  Listing that under optional equipment is odd.  If it just said "$.25 U.S. coin mech" I would suspect that it was an option.  But "Fitted with" sure sounds like that is standard.

I would contact Happs and find out if that is some sort of typo and maybe they'll compensate you somehow (doubtfull) other than that I get the impression that you will get the best prices on mechs for that door either on ebay or in the BST forum here.

Good luck.
Brian

That sucks.  I bought the same door direct from Happ about 2 years ago and it came standard with US $0.25 mechs - IIRC there wasn't even an option to buy it without mechs.   I guess Happ changed this so makes it easier/cheaper for someone who wants foreign or token mechs to get just what they need and not have to pay for mechs they are not going to use.

Just so you know for the future, there are some members here (ponyboy and divemaster127) who sell stuff from Happs on the "Buy / Sell / Trade" board.   It is cheaper to buy from them because they get the Happ stuff as a reseller so it is much cheaper than buying direct retail from Happ.   I didn't realize this when I was building my cab and wound up spending much extra $$ buying direct from Happ.

I would also think that "fitted with $.25 U.S. Coin Mech" meant that they came with mechs.  ALSO - in the exploded view, it shows the mech, and says "(FITTED AS STANDARD)"  I'd contact them and see what they say.

Thanks for the replies guys! I guess I'll call happs tomorrow, they're closed on the weekend.  Before I go ahead and get some $.25 mechanisms, is it possible to get a mechanism that will accept ALL coins so I could use the arcade kinda like a piggy bank?

If that's your goal, then you could rig the coin switch to be right after the entry slot, and just let the coins fall down into something.  Maybe need to fab a chute or funnel....

I think you would have to buy some $0.25 or token mechs, then modify them to accept a wider range of coins.   There are some good links to modifying coin mechs at http://www.arcadereplay.com/content/
