Jump Bug Side Art Wanted
« on: March 23, 2007, 10:24:39 pm »
I know this is a long shot for such an odd/obscure game, but I'd really like to find some Jump Bug side art for my machine.  Anyone have good scans or know where I can find a set?  Thanks!

Bit of a bump and a very noob question....I found this link to a photo of a Jump Bug:

Is it at all possible to somehow use Photoshop or some other program to capture the side art from that machine and turn it into something I could have printed up for my machine...or is the image way too small?

That picture is very close to being good enough to use. I would be able to create new vector art from that, although some of the details on the cars would have to be guessed. It looks like the smaller car is a duplicate of the larger one with maybe a few small changes. (Like the grey on the tires) so that helps.

Anyways, I believe it *CAN* be done from that picture, although it would be really nice to have a better detail shot, especially of a car.

I'm currently all booked up with some other stuff I'm creating, but if you don't mind waiting (Could be a while) I can give it a shot for you. Maybe someone else will take it on in the mean time, or maybe a better picture can be located. Even a good clean shot of the marquee might be usefull if it shows the car clearly.

That would be fantastic!  I'm currently trying to clean up the very damaged side art I have on my machine and may be able to send you digitals...just as a reference...OR, I could also turn my machine on its side (once it's cleaned up) and try scanning it and stitching it...who knows, it might help! ;)

no need to put the machine on the side, 2 clamps, one wood bar you clamp the bar on the side put the scanner on this side on the wood bar and voila you just have to maintain the scan in contact with the cab.
once the scan is done, you move the scan enough to keep a good recovery part between the 2 scans.

once one full horizontal pass is done, move the bar and start again.

I have scane my SI cab this way.
I'm on the planning stage

Well if you have access to original art (even if it is badly damaged) that definitely changes things.

A scan would allow everything to be "exact", but if you don't mind slight variations you can easily get by with taking some pictures with a digital camera. These pics can be perspective corrected later so things will be very close.

The best way to do this is to shoot with as much zoom as you can. This will cause less distortion due to perspective and lens issues. You should also make some reference marks on the artwork to take accurate measurements from. A good thing to do here is to place a series of masking tape squares at regular intervals (like a grid)  Then when the pictures are stitched together you simply make sure the reference tape matches the proper distances, and then the tracing can be made accurately.

make sense?
