What should i do with my TARG Arcade Machine???
« on: March 23, 2007, 04:35:50 pm »
Hello. i have a vintage TARG arcade machine sitting in my parents basement collecting dust. i bought it about 3 years ago locally out of the classifieds, under the assumption that it works, and when i got it i had no way of testing it, but this old man told me it worked.....well i got home and it didnt>>, the monitor was shot i guess? the game powers up and i can hear it making noises, but there is nothing on the screen at all. it was sitting out in a shed for a long time when i bought it and i have no idea what could have happened to it in this shed it was sitting in. I paid $200.00 for it and regretted it ever since lol and felt i got ripped off. I even called the old guy and he refused to give me any of my money back.  :banghead:

Now  Anyways i just joined this site about a month ago, and im working on a 4 player Mame set up which is coming along nicely. Although im not planning on making a full cabinet for the four player set up, just taking it to a TV etc. But after i finish it, i was maybe thinking off taking on the challenge of making a REAL mame arcade with a trackball etc. And it crossed my mind that this TARG machine could be a cool Cabinet to use, (has a pretty unique cab) although i was just wondering if i would be ruining a good cab, and if it would be worth it. any thoughts anyone???

It does look like a cool cabinet... good candidate for a conversion...

My thinking on it would be:

It is YOUR cabinet... and you can do with it what you wish.

What I usually do with MAME conversions is try to be as non-invasive to the cabinet as I can, even if it is a generic cab... I try to make it a reversible conversion... even if I have to store some original parts, and make a new control panel or something...

If the artwork is in good shape, you can keep it on the machine...

Save the boards and harness for re-converting, selling or trading.

I do not know about the desirability of the TARG cabinet... maybe you could put it up for sale, and if someone wants it badly enough, or if it is collectible enough... someone will snatch it up for a good price.

It is pretty much up to you...

It's not a very common game. It's also ugly.
And you're going to kick yourself even more after I say this:
It could simply be a loose wire or connector that got loosened when you moved the game to your place!!!!

Imagine, 3 years and it could have been working ll this time.

 ;D
NO MORE!!

hehe yea could possibly be a wire or something, although i know nothing of arcade internals and i never wanted to take a chance of getting shocked or killed by playing with stuff in the back LOL

but you could be right, but i really didnt know where to start looking to trying to figure out what was wrong, and didnt know anyone who knows anything about arcades either :-(
