Hey everybody, well i ran into my first (and hopefully only lol) Problem with MAME. It seems that when i hit these 3 button combinations my Mame screen minimizes. Now it was just minimizing and then i would have to pull it up, but now this screen pops up saying Windows cant seem to find the .ink file or something like that. (Ill get the exact message typed up here tommorow) my MAME set up is at my parents and im at home right now.

But i figured id post this to maybe see if there could possibly be a simple solution. I was talking to another member on here and he said to go into tab and then go down and turn the toggle full screen  NONE. i did that but it still does it. I notice the the keys thats makin it do this are>

left Ctrl, Left Alt, and S

also

Left Ctrl, Left Alt, and some other key (ill have to post tommorow when i get back on the machine)

It does it when i play any game.

Anybody have ANY ideas>>

Oh also one more thing> i haveent installed my PCI card yet (its in the mail) but i was tld that might possibly clear it up too, but i noticed one other thing. When im playing a game that is moving real fast or has a lot going on ill see like a line just through the screen. Normally horizontal up to down. Kinda like a clear glitch line. Would this be from the monitor im using? And will it clear up when i have it going from my PCI card to my 27" TV? I notice it does the same kind thing when i play on a nes emulator too.

Did you try what I suggested?

Press Ctrl-Alt-S in Notepad or some other program and see if anything weird video wise happens and if you can figure out what program is causing it?

Also - look for a program called EndItAll - http://www.docsdownloads.com/enditall-1.htm, install and run this and then start MAME and see if it still happens (this terminates all running programs, so if you have a resident program causing this, it will be closed.)  Also, I recommend StartupCPL http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml which will allow you to see what programs are getting loaded when you start the machine.

Sounds sortof like sreen tearing to me.  I think -triplebuffer in MAME.ini normally fixes it., but I'm kinda guessing on that.

I had a very similar issue with my setup.  If I got crazy with my button pushing, mame would loose focus and my fe would pop back up (which I'd have no control of).  After pulling my hair out, shooting my dog, and jerking my car into oncoming traffic I realized it had to do with what keys I had mapped in mame.  I don't remember exactly which key it was that gave me fits, but I would suggest making (at least) all your 'game play' buttons actual letters on the keyboard.  None of this left-ctrl right-alt crap.  In fact, I mapped all my cp buttons to actual letters just to never have to worry about this again.  Kinda makes me wonder why they would make those types of mappings default for mame??

I think they just picked the six left most keys which are LCtrl, LAlt, Space, LShift, Z, and X.

When MAME was first created for DOS, only the Dev's were using it, and they typically weren't running other apps (at least not windows apps) on their machines, it was less of an issue.

The cynic in me would guess it was picked intentionally to make the program less user-friendly and keep it from becoming too mainstream, but the realist suspects they just figured it worked most of the time and didn't want to bother with changing it.

ok i was real busy the last couple days, and haveent been able to check out exactly what message box pops up from the ctrl, alt, and S. But i know one box that pops up with the other letter configuration i just found was a box that shows like all my computer Specs??? Dont know why. i think i will try and DL that program where you can change the letters for buttons. Is that program hard to use or pretty self explanatory? I only wanna change the ctrl and alt to some letters that haveent been used. i think that would be the easiest way for me and fix the problem. considering it seems like it could be ALOT of things making it do this.

oh and yes i tried ctrl left alt, and S in notepad and it doesnt do it??? only in MAME??
