Tempest Assistance
« on: April 10, 2003, 03:29:06 pm »
Fellow BYOAC'ers,

I need some assistance from anyone owning the great game of Tempest.

I need to know the exact dimensions of the Tempest Sideart. I have an older cab, that is not a Tempest cab and I want to make it look as close to the original Tempest machine as I can.

I checked ArcadeRenovations.com and found the Side Art I need. Here it is:

http://www.arcaderenovations.com/catalog/product_reviews_info.php?products_id=70&reviews_id=2

Unfortunately there are no dimensions. I need to know if this side art will fit on my cab.

Can someone out there measure it for me? I need the length and width of all 3 pieces and if possible, several width measurements for the top piece as it is "triangular in shape".

In advance, I appreciate any help you guys can provide.

MM

Crude but pretty accurate.. I'd say within 1/4" becuase of t-molding and the curved corners

What do you mean by all 3 pieces? Each side should be a single piece

The graphic at arcaderenovations.com appears to be 3 separate decals.

Is it only one decal? Anyone know?

Well, the original was 1 large piece, the white above & below the black middle part is actually white "sticker"

I've seen some archived pics of some VERY early tempest cabs that had those white strips routed out and the black part just painted(I think?) but it may have just been prototypes

Please let me know how it looks and performs, I think thats the sets Ive been eyeing to redo my sides

Weren't original Tempests silk screened like Arabian, Kangaroo, Dig Dug, Asteroids, Crystal Castles, and pretty much everything else Atari was shipping back then? I don't think it was actually a sticker. I own several Atari games, and the only one with sticker sideart is Assault.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I just got a reply from arcaderenovations.com, but they didn't give the side art dimensions .... just the original generic Tempest cab dimensions.

Has anyone purchased side art for a Tempest ?????

If so, how about a couple of quick measurements?

Hook a brother up ....  :P
