Will MAME ever reach the magic verison number 1.0? If so, what doe's it mean? (If anything)
Usually, decimal versions of something mean upgrades or improvements to a product, and a whole numbered version means it's a complete version. MAME can never be a complete version can it? It may emulate all the games it has at the time perfectly, but will never be complete as long as arcade machines are still being created and built?
OR
It's JUST a number to keep track of versions. We're getting pretty close to version 1.0 and I doubt very much the mame team (as good as they are) will be able squeeze in all the remaining games in the world before they hit it. Hopefully it'll be a memorable occasion when it hits the big 1.0!
Ahh I'm just remeniscing. I remember when the version number slowed down to a halt with the beta system, when it almost seemed they were trying to slow down the numbers (around about the 0.37b14 time or something similar) but for what reason? Shortly after it sped up ahead again in leaps and bounds when they scrapped it.
Its gonna be a weird see something like MAME 2.15 when I've known it in it's infancy. *sniff* I wonder what version my kids'll be playing?
