Building a control panel with X-Aracdes trackball
« on: March 21, 2007, 05:53:41 am »
The reviews I've seen for X-Arcades trackball are very good.  After buying a Happ trackball with mounting  hardware and an interface I could easily spend $200.  After a rebate the X-Arcade one is $50.  I was thinking of buying this and remounting it in my control panel.  Any thoughts?

If you are happy with it then give it a go.   Some people complain about using x arcade parts and happs are definately better but it looks like a cheap way to get a trackball and interface.    Not sure about the mounting hardware  thou.   Probably no mounting plate as it would be cheaper for them to mount direct to the under part of the cp.  Thats only a guess, you will not know until you open it up.   If you do use one please take pictures and post them on the board so everyone can see what you get.

You should take a look at the Buy/Sell/Trade section. Divemaster127 sells pretty much everything Happ has at a much better price. I ordered from him a couple of months ago and was very happy with his service. Check out his thread, you'll see a lot of happy customers.

I have an xarcade trackball in my cp and don't have any issues with it. I play a lot of golden tee and it's great.

It should mount very easily. My CP was designed for a Happ trackball and the xarcade slipped right in.

$50 plus shipping for what I assume is a 3-inch trackball with interface is really a pretty good deal.

However, Stevejt has Betson (used) 3-inch TB's here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=63232.0 and Menace was recently selling used Happ TB's for the same price.  Then you would need an Opti-Wiz from GGG which could also control a spinner.

Looks like the x arcade uses their own version of a betson/wico trackball.  Found a pic on Retroblast and it looks like the components are well mounted and would be easy to reuse in a new cp.

Yeah, the X-Arcade trackball is a rebadged Betson Imperial 3 inch. It's USB, so it plugs in and works just like a mouse. I have one and a Betson that it was based on, and they work just as good as the Betson. I wouldn't think twice about picking up another.
