Beatmania - What hardware?
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:28:15 pm »
Hello all,

I am in the design phase of my beatmania dedicated repo cab, meaning a cab designed to be the same as the beatmania cab for mame and ps2. I am currently testing beatmania on a Athlon 64 single core 3400+ with 2 GB of ram. I am not pleased at all with the emulation, particularly the fact that the cpu hits 100%, and then only gives about 50 FPS, anbd music hissing and other problems. This is very apparent on 6 and 7 star songs particulary.

So I believe I am almost there, but with 12 beatmania mixes in 0.113 I want to have smooth clean beatmania experience...

What hardware woul dyou recommend (motherboard + processor).

Thanks as always

I have an e6600 system with 2GB ram and I still have sound issues.  IIRC, I had gotten full frames with my Athlon 64 3700+ Socket 754, and 1 GB ram.  With the e6600 I get the full 58FPS but some of the sounds are not clean.  If I turn off autoframeskip I the frames stay above 300FPS (unplayable of course.  Have you tried this?  Does it still drop to ~50FPS?

I recommend PS2 hardware for the smoothest experience and largest selection of Beatmania titles (more than 12, I think.)

Thank You, I will try it (speed throttling)

I just don't think the emulation is there yet - I would love to own a real beatmania machiene - the final seems to be the best choice (it can be had for about 600 here in los angeles). BTW there are the following ps2 titles.

Beatmania 2nd mix, 2nd mix append, 3rd mix append, 4th mix append, 5th mix append, 6th mix + core remix, gottamix, gottamix 2, club mix, sound or toyko, dreams come true, best hits - so you were right 12 (I own all the beatmania games, including iidx stuff.

Thank You
