Ding Dong The Cab Is Dead
« on: March 18, 2007, 10:16:54 am »
Well I went out and created a monster, the coolest cab I thought possible with my noob woodworking skills and my deranged mentality at the time.   ;D

A real nightmare so bad I dare not publish the pictures to avoid the laughs and jokes that would prevail and follow me on this board.  Yep that bad.    :laugh2:

What I want to do is use the wood and make a minature Space Ace or Dragon's Lair style machine with a 17" LCD.  Something to incorporate my X Arcade and my many consoles.  But without MDF.

So what do you suggest?  A traditional cab outline with swappable controls or a caberet dedicated Space Ace  Machine with all the bells and whistles?

I don't think a mini DL or SA  has been attempted before, and I do have all the parts and a working laserdisc player all ready for it.  I also want to document this to help others, but I lack the direction to start out.

I'm thinking of being novel and setting fire to my old Frankenstein like in the movies, but keeping my Xarcade as I have spent so many pennies on it.  I'm sure most of you will say to throw it on the fire too, as the aspect of building a control panel makes better sense to so many.

Any suggestions?

Isn't that an oxymoron?  :)

I would go with a more traditional cabinet.

Do you have the game PCBs or are you controlling the LD with a computer?
Brevity is not my strong suit.

It would be a daphne cab.

I want to put a yoke I am currently building on it to play Starwars and a trackball but on a mounting plate that can be detachable.  I got an idea from one of my lcd mounting brackets that simply snaps in and connects via USB or make it wireless.

What I don't want is a cluttered panel.  Its just for me, so a Ultra Stick 360 should suffice with the Xarcade.  You can use it with the Xarcade right? Just remove the bottom of the panel......

I want to do a proper job, and not one of those half  :censored: types that I'm very capable of doing.

I cannot use MDF due to getting it up the stairs - we just spent £3000 on the hall and landing and I can see my head going on a spike when I rip the wallpaper off moving it upstairs.  Something light and easy to move and keeps me out of the dog house.

I don't want much do I?  ;D

How about an Ultimate Arcade 2 design, it could be taken apart and moved in pieces.

(yep moving a full cab up stairs is heavy 7 tricky)

On the disc part: you may want to go over to the Daphne forum.  Someone over there recently thought of doing the same thing and was cautioned by Matt O to not do it. No need if using Daphne.
