Question for IPAC2 owners
« on: March 16, 2007, 01:00:56 pm »
1) Without using the SHIFT function to gain more keyboard mappnigs, how many keys can be mapped through the IPAC2 (PS/2)?

2) Can a PS2 keyboard be connected to the IPAC and be used as a pass through keybaord as normal, or is there some switch which is required to be moved to "keyboard" mode or something like that?

3) I noticed that Ultimarc has a USB IPAC2 now ..... how does this differ from the older IPAC2 PS/2 kinds ..... is it just that the USB connection is added?

4) If I want to reload the IPAC key mappings, then do I simply reload it with a configuration text file which has all the key mappings in it?  Explain how loading an IPAC2 occurs.

Thanks!

** Going on vacation in about 3 hours but thought it would be nice to post this question before I left.....

(1). The I-pac 2 has 28 inputs. So 28 different keys without using the shift function.T

(2). Just plug the keyboard into the I-Pac2, and you can use it without any switching.

(3). Basically, it is just shipped with a different cord.  One connects to the Ps/2 on your computer and the other connects to the USB.

(4). You can reconfigure the Ipac's keys by using the WinIpac utility. (You can download it at ultimarc.com).  It is very easy to use.

Hope that is the info you were looking for.

Just as it is,
Flip Willie

Flip Willie covered it, but there is a USB I-PAC/2 and a USB I-PAC VE.

The VE is 32 inputs, but uses SDRAM instead of EEPROM (goes to default codeset on powerdown), and the default codeset repeats one of the keys.

Why would anyone want to buy a VE then and have their settings get reset everytime they turn if off......  is it cheaper?

IMS it's the same price with free shipping for four additinal inputs.

The settings getting reset isn't a big deal except that the default codeset on the VE isn't that great.  Even then, if you don't hot-swap the device (desktop controller), you just add a WinIPAC shortcut to your startup program and it is good to go.

I have a desktop controller using the KeyWiz and I almost always use default settings with it, but they don't repeat any keys, and it works fine for me.
