Looking to buy Vinly Button labels
« on: March 14, 2007, 05:46:22 pm »
With Mike Duece being out of the loop for some time I thought I would try and see if anyone had any extra labels for what I want.  I need them for two cabinets.  Below is a picture of what I want.  I need to change up a few of them though... Oh and I need one set GREEN and another set RED.

-- The little men for 1P and 2P buttons
-- The 'COIN'x2 pictures for those buttons
-- The left and right mouse pictures.

For the Admin panel we would like the following.

-- EXIT x2
-- PAUSE x2
-- RESET x2
-- SHIFT x2

----------------------------------

Not sure if anyone bought a set like these in the colors I need or if anyone can replicate them.  Thanks in advance.

I'm fine with waiting... just figured in the mean time I would see if anyone had any extras laying somewhere.  My daughter keeps pealing off my ghetto paper labels.

Yeah, the problem is it's unclear if Mike's going to have any time in the near future or not. According to the boards he was gone for a few months. He posted again saying he was still alive and just really busy but that was 3 weeks ago with no news since. I'm guessing he'll be back eventually but I want to get the cabinet at some point so I'm trying to find a second source to make em.

Does anybody have a status on Mike?

I have a cutter, and can offer to make some of these, but I don't want to step on anyone's toes. He seems to have kept everyone happy, so I don't want to jump in and "steal" that away from him. I also do not have a lot of free time to cut.

I would need to make up some templates before cutting, but it would not take long. The biggest thing would be knowing the proper sizes/symbols people are looking for.

He didn't make a killing in the first place. More or less to help out the hobby. I think he charged me a buck shipped for two sets of 1up men and $ symbols.
I'm sure if you talked with him, you two could work something out to be co-vinyl cutter dudes. ;D

That's part of the reason I don't want to step on any toes here.

Weeding small stuff can be a real pain. So if someone wants to do it and make a few bucks here and there I don't want to interfere. There's no sense having a couple of people competing for a few bucks, but if one person can do enough of them, it might be worthwhile. (Hope that makes sense)

Anyways, I will try to send him a PM to see if he responds.

Thread Hijackers!

I'll pay anyone who can make the high quality labels that Mike produces.  I also don't mind waiting it's just that the labels are the last detail needed for my cabinet to be 'complete'.

here are some samples,... ready to be cut. (edit: removed image)

If I don't hear from Mike by Saturday I will cut these and make them available to all.  If he is available to cut I would say go through him. As I stated above I do not wish to step on his toes, so that is why I am doing this.

I have a lot of different colors,... cost should be comparable to Mike, but I will be able to nail that down once I cut a batch to see what I'm getting myself into.

Those look good.  I like sheet 3 the best I think of those fonts.  I would also like the red and green to match the happs controlers if you have that color.  I'll wait to hear from you.

Ok,... I'm in. I've gotten a lot of requests, and I will try to get back to everyone. If you don't hear from me in a day or so then send another PM.

Edit: removed some things that have been changed by the first test. See the post below for more current info.

At this point I'm open to suggestions for other things to be on the sets, or for a different arrangement. I'm looking for a combination that gives you everything you need without a bunch of pieces that hardly anyone will use. Custom options will always be available for those that need it.

Thanks.

Just finished my first test cut.

First, the good news. (see pic 1) They look real nice on the buttons.

Now the bad news. (see pic 2) That is a scan of the sheet after weeding. The red X's are the ones I feel to be flawed. That's about half of all the text labels. Add that failure rate in with the fact that it took me nearly an hour to cut and weed that sheet.

I am at a point where I honestly do not know what to do. I would love to be able to help out and cut these for some of you, but I do not have the time to weed these sheets, and the failure rate is way too high on the text. (I can cut more, but it still comes down to the manual labor time to weed.) As you can see I tried some different styles hoping they might work better, but they all had failures. I was hoping to charge around $10 for a full sheet, weeded and ready to stick, but I'm not sure I can meet that, and I think anything higher is too much. The quality is too low at this point for me to sell them due to the failures.

One solution would be to offer a set that does not include the little text. All the icons worked really well, so maybe 25c instead of coin, and so on. The other text could be done as a circular arc over or under the button. This would make it large enough to not have these issues. Those of you that have expressed interest in these, what are your opinions? Are you only interested in on-button stickers?

Thanks

Looks like you found the Slicker font I got Mike to use on my decals.

Reading your last post really makes me realize how much work he put into my sheets.

Did you try bolding that font? I got him to make it as bold and as big as possible, while still fitting on the button. Might make the weeding process easier.

Yea,... I had several people asking for the slicker font, and it is a style that works well at that size. I did make it a bit bolder already,... perhaps I could try a bit more.

Can you tell from the pics of the buttons how the types sizes compare? Were his letters about that size or larger?

And yea,... I really have to hand it to Mike for being patient enough to weed through those sheets. It is a lot of work and very tedious. I usually turn down stuff that is under 1/4" in size because  of this, and those text labels are just over 1/8". This is definitely a case where I won't be charging for the materials, just mostly my time, which unfortunately can be extensive on the little stuff.

I hope to post some new alternatives tonight, so stand by for more info.

One option Pongo, that Mike offered was unweeded sheets.  There was a discount for the unweeded ones.

I agree. Offer weeded and unweeded sheets. That way you can charge more for the weeded ones and not feel bad and those that need a cheaper option can do it themselves. I'm definately in for a few, going to figure out what exactly I need monday but I think what you're showing there works.

OK,... here is what I'm going to offer.

View the images to see a bit more details. The image that shows the sets is 72 dpi, so if you print it at 100%, you can see the exact size of the decals before ordering.

Those that have read above have seen my frustration with the small on-button type, so I will not be offering that. Instead, I have made two different versions that I hope works. (see the images for sample use,... the buttons are to scale and spaced out 1.5 inches)

I need to cut a few sets to be ready to go, and I will start a new thread announcing when these are ready. Pricing will be $10 per set, or both sets for $15. Colors available immediately will be black and white.

If you wish to have a different color, or perhaps a slight variation the price should remain close to the same, but it may take a slight bit longer before I can send them out. I will list the colors available when I create the new post.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are interested in an order, please wait until the other thread. I will try to respond to everyone that has emailed me, but if you do not hear from me, send a new one when that thread is started.

Thanks,... comments/crits welcome.

Just another update.

Sorry for the delays,... I'm about 98% ready to go here. I was going to start a new thread tonight, but I am waiting for some new clear transfer paper. The transfer paper I normally use is better for larger pieces, not so good for little stuff. It should be here tomorrow, and then I can hit go on these.

Set 1 looks great!  Didn't know it was so tricky to make these things.  Thanks for doing it though and yah the slicker font looks good.

Also concerning price; I would rather have a higher quality product and pay more then a 'so so' product and pay less.
