They made all the bidding anonymous to everyone outside the auction.  Once you place a bid you can see the actual names.

This doesn't seem to apply to all auctions.  Is it an option when listing?

Maybe a security method because of all the people contacting other bidders to avoid paying fees, or making fake second chance offers.

Hmmm...  I auctioned something a couple of weeks ago that had the "bidder 1, bidder 2" thing going on.  I have an auction currently running (used the same template) that does not have it.

No clue...I noticed that too a week or so ago,and figured it was because I wasn't logged in.  But I just checked a random auction, and I CAN see bidders even though I'm not logged in.

My boss claims that it is only once an item goes above $200 that it goes to bidder 1, bidder 2, etc.
