Carriage Bolts on CP, neccessary?
« on: March 10, 2007, 01:57:06 pm »
Is it necessary to use carriage bolts on the CP to hold the plexi down?  I'm thinking the nuts from the buttons should be enough but I'm not sure.  What have some of you done to hold down your plexi?  BTW I'm using 5/8" MDF with 1/8" plexi.

depends on the plexi...

sometimes it wants to curl up on the edges. I've used plexi 4 times. Twice I had to use carriage bolts to hold it down. Perhaps someone knows a trick to hold it down besides carriage bolts

You won't need any bolts.  Also, you are in good shape because your wood plus plexi equals the width of the T molding.  What that means is that you can offset the slot for the t molding and make it so that it coversthe wood and plexi and will hold it in place nicely.  Just get thestandard 3/4" T-molding and it will work fine.

As long as it's recessed so you're not going to possibly get caught on an edge and rip it up. If any of the edges are going to be exposed, I'd be sure to bolt it down tightly on at least the corners.
Brevity is not my strong suit.
